Entry Level Biologist
Job Title: Associate Microbiologist - USP Lab Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Associate Microbiologist to join our USP lab team. The role involves routine analysis and testing for pathogens such as E.coli, Salmonella, and Listeria. This position is crucial for the upcoming project starting mid-March, which will significantly increase sample volumes and involve multiple phases. There is also potential for future training in our Probiotics lab. Responsibilities + Conduct routine analysis and testing for pathogens including E.coli, Salmonella, and Listeria. + Perform plating for yeast, mold, and total plate count using lower dilutions. + Utilize various types of media and dilutions for sample inoculation. + Participate in a multi-phase project with an initial increase of 30% in sample volume. + Train in the Probiotics lab, focusing on enumerations of probiotic samples and dilution plate methods. + Engage in flow cytometry as the role progresses. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences (Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field). + 0-1+ years of experience in a production/manufacturing or food service position. + Strong microbiology and aseptic technique skills. + Experience with media preparation, plating, and working in a microbiology laboratory. + Ability to multi-task and maintain high attention to detail. Additional Skills & Qualifications + PCR and ELISA testing experience. + Ability to use various styles of pipettes and micropipettes, especially multi-channel electronic pipettes. + Experience in food testing or client service. Work Environment The position is based in a lab setting at a microbiology department with around 20 employees. The lab focuses on dietary microbiology and probiotics, operating in a fast-paced environment. The work can be repetitive, depending on the group, and requires precise attention to detail. The lab is part of a larger organization with 415 employees in Madison and 800 employees in total.
