Job Description
An engineering consulting firm in Ann Arbor is looking to add an entry-level civil engineer to join their substation team. This role is in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Ann Arbor, Michigan office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office). Initially, the candidate must be willing to work full-time in the office for a period, which could be several weeks or months, eventually leading to a flexible schedule with both in-office and remote work.
ResponsibilitiesAll aspects of substation civil design including permitting support, site design, foundation design, structure design, and control building designDevelopment of civil construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedulesSupport of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on resultsPreparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirementsUnderstand and incorporate typical structural code requirementsCoordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation designOccasional travel will be requiredEssential SkillsBachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering degree from an accredited collegeAbility to perform basic civil engineering tasksAbility to independently create calculation packagesMechanical reasoning skills and attention to detailSuccessful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, or the ability to complete the FE exam within one yearStrong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skillsLegally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorshipAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plusExperience with AutoCAD, Microstation, RISA, MatchCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D are beneficialGeotechnical experience is a plusProfessional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure in multiple statesAbility to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedulesWork Environment
This position offers flexibility for a hybrid work environment after an initial in-office period. The role includes occasional travel and the use of design software such as AutoCAD, Microstation, RISA, MatchCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D. The office environment supports collaboration among multiple disciplines contributing to substation design.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $38.00/hr.
