Entry-Level Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer
Job Description

Work Arrangement:     

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned plant on a full-time basis.   

 

What You’ll Do:  

We have the following positions available to start your career with GM as early as January 2025:     

Dimensional Engineer 

Manufacturing Engineer 

Process Engineer 

Facilities Management Rep 

Facilities Engineer  

 

For the following positions, work is performed in a manufacturing plant where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as some level of independent judgment.  

 

Our Dimensional Engineers are responsible for managing vehicle fit/finish based on key process metrics from customer feedback. You may also be responsible for:  

Process validation of new equipment build, installation, and start-up  

Identifying equipment/tooling alternatives  

Review, evaluate, and diagnose body/frame fit issues that lead to customer dissatisfiers  

 

Our Manufacturing Engineers are responsible for equipment related to the manufacturing process. In this role, you will analyze and implement product or machinery designs for the best method for manufacturing processes.  You may also be responsible for:   

Propose and evaluate the processes for equipment in assigned area  

Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for assigned area  

Provide technical support for specific plant operations  

Provide direction to engineering support group and vendors  

Evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment  

Handle engineering projects  

 

Our Process Engineers are responsible for the sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of parts. Process Engineers will also be responsible for supporting activities that may include:    

Identifying equipment/tooling alternatives  

Manufacturing process definition, sequence of operations and efficient material flow   

Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high-quality parts  

Development and testing of advanced process technology 

 

Our Facilities Management Reps are responsible for serving as the Single Point of Contact and Building Owner for all facility needs, including Maintenance, Housekeeping, Roads & Grounds. You may also be responsible for:  

Development and administration of service contracts  

Working closely with our Business Partners to ensure a high level of delivery of facilities services to our tenants and their communities in which they work   

Partnering with our GM communities and leading the transformation of our workspaces with a goal of finding more creative and efficient ways to be their best and building places people want to be. Doing so in a safe, compliant, cost-efficient manner that utilizes advanced technology to support social & ecological sustainability   

 

Our Facilities Engineers are responsible for facility mechanical systems and facility maintenance in a manufacturing plant and will direct facility activities related to engineering, construction, and maintenance projects.  This includes but not limited to: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, chilled water, compressed air, natural gas, tank farms, and energy conservation initiatives. You may also be responsible for:  

Monitoring and maintaining physical condition of facilities – buildings, roads, grounds, and architectural structure  

Seeking new technology applications and creative methods for accomplishing objectives  

Develop, document, and continuously improve facility mechanical systems

Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to:  

Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.  

Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections.  

Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals.  

Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes.  

Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).  

Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch and reach to perform work.  

Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs.  

Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment.

Required Qualifications: 

Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology  

Must be graduating between August 2024 and June 2025  

Able to work full time, 40 hours per week  

Willing to work in a plant environment  

Willing to work on any shift and able to rotate shifts based on schedule  

 

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):  

Prior internship experience in automotive, technology, or manufacturing  

Technical capabilities (such as dimensional or statistical background, computer skills, experience with various software, knowledge or metrology processes, knowledge of building mechanical systems, etc.) that will aid in problem solving 

Demonstrates leadership in field of study, extra-curricular activities or service organizations 

Strong critical thinking and analytical skills 

Ability to synthesize large amounts of data involving multiple variables into comprehensive, applicable insights  

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, leading timelines and goals 

Willingness to ask questions, take initiative and be resourceful and inventive

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.  

The salary range for this role is $81,000 - $89,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.  

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
