Job Description
Join our team as a Utility Engineer and contribute to the design and development of power distribution infrastructure. This role involves working on Make Ready and Joint Use projects to support the integration of various utilities like AT&T, Verizon, fiber optic, and 5G onto existing infrastructure. You will ensure that designs meet quality, time, and budget constraints while adhering to established guidelines and procedures.
ResponsibilitiesExecute work orders for the design of power distribution infrastructure, ensuring quality, time, and budget constraints are met.Perform end-to-end Make-Ready/Joint-use, and general distribution design, applying established design guidelines, processes, and procedures.Conduct pole loading analysis, field data review, data entry, and other related tasks to complete design and construction prints.Utilize Open Utilities, a Microstation/AutoCAD-based design software, and PoleForeman for pole analysis.Develop detailed design prints using CAD software such as Bentley, Microstation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SolidWorks, or similar design software.Ensure compliance with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) to determine corrective actions for spacing/clearance of components on the poles.Essential SkillsExperience in utility design, distribution, LVD (low voltage distribution), make ready, or joint use work.Proficiency in using design software such as Microstation, AutoCAD, or similar.Knowledge of pole loading analysis and related software like PoleForeman, PLS-CAD, O-Calc.Familiarity with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) for corrective actions and compliance.Associates or Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of utility infrastructure, pole installation, clearances, transformers, distribution lines, and down guys.Experience with software mapping tools like ESRI or ArcGIS.Entry-level candidates with relevant degrees or experience in utility or communication company design work are welcome.Work Environment
You will work in our state-of-the-art office in Livonia, which is being expanded to accommodate planned growth. This role starts as a contract position with the potential to become a direct hire after nine months. Initially, you will report daily to the office, but there will be opportunities for a hybrid work week once you consistently deliver quality work.
