Job Description
The Entry Writer is a key member of the Customs House Brokerage (CHB) team, responsible for the accurate and timely submission of customs entries for the clearance of in-bound cargo through US Customs and facilitating the delivery of freight to customers. This role requires strong customer service skills, as the Entry Writer serves as a customer advocate. This position offers an opportunity for growth, with potential promotion from administrative operations to entry writer roles.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare and transmit CBP entries for shipment release.Receive and review documentation to input and transmit data for CBP release of shipments.Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each customer on the correct method and data required for preparing an entry.Use product files to identify HTS details on commercial invoices.Report the completion of entry tasks and cargo release to the supervisor.Report exceptions to established clearance requirements to the supervisor.Organize the work area to identify the status of every file through each phase of the CBP entry process.Confirm release details to customers through pre-established communication protocols.Meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for import operations.Track and trace shipments and coordinate with steamship lines, freight forwarders, and Container Freight Stations (CFS) on the availability of imported shipments.Arrange pick-up and delivery of freight with trucking companies.Coordinate delivery exceptions and special delivery instructions with supervisors.Handle billing processes related to CHB, including issuing invoices to customers or overseas offices and processing payment requisitions.Essential SkillsExperience with air import and entry writing.Knowledge of CFS, track and trace, and import customs processes.High School Diploma or GED.6 months to 2 years of experience and/or training in import operations.Strong teamwork and verbal reporting skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in a logistics or related field.Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.Strong organizational skills.Work Environment
This position is based onsite at a logistics company in Torrance for the first 90 days, after which it may transition to a hybrid work arrangement.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00
