The primary role of the EHS Specialist is to build a plant and/or department culture with an unconditional stance on safety. The EHS Specialist will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of critical safety, health, and Environmental processes/programs/procedures to achieve a zero-injury environment. The successful candidate will provide leadership and apply technical abilities to engage employees at all levels of the organization to develop and sustain world-class safety and environmental process. This position reports to the EHS Leader.

 

A successful candidate must have exceptional multi-cross functional skills and the initiative to act within a fast-paced environment. They are capable in building partnerships with multiple functions and quickly understand the process of the day-to-day environment, assess safety risks, take immediate action, and sustain those changes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with Sr EHS Lead and EHS Technician on building a Plant safety strategy to align with company safety initiatives. Development, implementing, and executing safety initiatives to strive to meet safety measures including but not limited to incident/accident reporting procedures, safety plans on evacuations, first responders’ organization, risk assessments, periodic safety training, safety assessments, and primary/salaried ongoing training. Partnering with our People Leaders and Primary employees on best safety practices including coordinating and appropriate planning Creating and overseeing routine safety and health strategies to meet end of year results. Develop, implement and/or evaluate EHS plans and programs to ensure a solid foundation of safety and environmental awareness is communicated within the facility. Maintain, transform and update EHS data into information (charts, and graphs) and metrics. Develop, implement, deliver, maintain, and improve EHS related training programs in coordinated effort with NLT, EHS Leader and appropriate plant personnel. Implement and maintain all EHS training in the approved data base. Maintain training documentation as required by corporate and federal/state standards. Conduct, identify and document Hazard Analysis process, Safe Behavior Observations, facility audits, etc. Assist in recordable injury, first-aid, and near-miss investigations and in the development and implementation of improvement action plans through completion of “Learning from Incident “reports. Improve the EHS culture through educating employees on EHS standards and procedures. Actively participate in the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) within the EHS Pillar with strong support of all pillars; serve as Vice Pillar Leader

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in any field related to EH&S, such as industrial hygiene, engineering, science or equivalent 2+ years of experience leading EHS efforts in an industrial manufacturing setting Bilingual (English & Spanish)

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience in the implementation of OSHA, EPA, and other general industry EHS standards Understands development needs within the Owens Corning EHS body of knowledge while planning, creating, executing, and sustaining necessary needs to our business Experience in providing feedback when identifying unsafe acts or behaviors at all employee levels. Experience making high-impact decisions in fast-paced environment. Experience with utilizing Computer programs including Microsoft office to develop resources needed for training/teaching purposes. Experience with leading people with ongoing initiatives to prepare rising talent

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

ASP certification preferred, not required. Working in a manufacturing or distribution environment Advanced computer skills (Excel pivot tables/formula writing; PowerPoint) Writing and maintaining standard operating procedures Willing to learn new controls technologies and systems as required throughout plant Work up to (10-12) hours in non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment Ability to work after business hours and be on call as necessary Safeguard self and others with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Steel-toed shoe, Eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask), and hearing protection as necessary for tasks
