Targeted Pay Rate: $125000.00

Position Purpose: 

The Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager oversees the EH&S Program for the Nassau County Project to ensure compliance with all safety and environmental rules and regulations, project security, internally established business metrics, training program requirements, workers’ compensation management, injury and environmental incident prevention and management, and development/implementation of site specific EHS programs. The position is responsible for developing and directing the EH&S Program for all the Nassau County Project (approximately 190 employees). The position is responsible for achieving the EH&S Metrics established for the Project.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Review, implements, and manages company EH&S policies and procedures.Supports plant management in safety and environmental compliance initiatives, accident prevention, workers’ compensation management, incident analysis, safety and environmental auditing, and EH&S training.Monitors, tracks and conducts EH&S training.Manages accident reporting, investigations, and reviews.  Analyze data and propose intervention strategies and follow-up on the preventive/corrective actions.Support workers’ compensation claims management and interfaces with worker comp coordinator to reduce worker’s compensation costs.Serves as a mentor/resource for on-site staff on EHS related matters.Assists in the development of EH&S budgets and EH&S goal setting.Develop and support implementation of project specific EHS programs and policies and procedures.Monitors environmental and safety requirements, industry consensus safety standards, and industry safety statistics.Completes monthly EH&S reports to project management and Segment EH&S Sr. Director on progress against established EH&S Metrics.Develops, implements, and manages injury and environmental event reduction programs to reduce accidents and avoidable environmental events. Implements EH&S program elements and directs efforts to improve supervisor and employee safety culture.Provides or coordinates industrial hygiene related support to protect employee’s health through hazard controls in the work environment.Determines and implements leading edge and cost effective EH&S control measures to reduce EH&S incidents and costs.Conduct EHS training as required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Environment Health & Safety or equivalent.Certification in Industrial Hygiene (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or ability to achieve either of these certification.15-20 years of experience in Safety Management.10-15 years of experience in employee Culture Change and proven Injury Reduction and Sustainability Experience.5-10 years of experience in Environmental Compliance Management (preferably related to water and wastewater treatment industry).5-10 years of experience in EHS leadership position (Director, Manager).Familiarity with wastewater operations and maintenance.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong organizational, oral, written and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple initiatives with a drive for results.Ability to interact with all levels of management and staff to achieve required EH&S Metrics.Ability to train, coach, and influence employee behavior on safe work practices and environmental compliance excellence to achieve required EH&S Metrics.Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.Maintain specialized knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and industry consensus safety and environmental guidelines.Willingness and ability to work outside of core business hours in order to meet business needs and respond to emergencies.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

Certification in Industrial Hygiene (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Physical Requirements:

This position is based in an office within a wastewater treatment plant complex.While performing the duties of this position, the employee is expected to work both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.Incumbent may be occasionally exposed to noise and dust. Incumbent may work occasionally on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving vehicles, and ladder/scaffolding.
