EHS Supervisor will be responsible for managing all aspects of site EHS programs - including identifying, implementing EHS programs, improving existing EHS programs and strengthening overall performance at Afton sites/facilities for which they are accountable. Position works to ensure compliance with National, Regional, state and local regulations.
Responsibilities Create and implement environmental, safety, health, and regulatory compliance programs and procedures that comply with OSHA, EPA, DOT regulatory requirements.Produce accurate and metrics; use metrics to drive continuous improvement and enable sites to achieve Vision of Zero injuries/incidents/non-compliance.Maintain records which are needed to demonstrate compliance with safety and environmental obligations.Work to proactively head off EHS issues and concerns. Provide EHS support for proposed projects, at the site level or for new activities to identify and mitigate risks, reduce impact in keeping with Design with EHS in Mind.Interact with local, state, and federal authorities on regulatory matters to ensure that Afton meets all compliance obligations.Bring creative, innovative ideas to maintain and improve the safety culture.Interact with and influence multiple levels of the organization to achieve best in class EHS performance.Ensure adequate and appropriate safety, environmental, and regulatory training for personnel. Develop training programs, and secure outside training as necessary, select/recommend sources for training aids and materials as needed. Lead implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the EHS management system – to sustain certification and deliver performance. QualificationsEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene or Industrial Safety8-10 years relevant work experience in an industrial setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.Demonstrated effective program and project management, strategic thinking and leadership skills.Experience in manufacturing, laboratory and/or R&D environments.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

EHS Risk Assessment: Leads risk identification and assessment programs. Uses proactive methods to identify potential process failures, compliance or business risk to ensure that EHS hazards and risks are identified. Uses the concepts of risk identification to develop strategies to achieve VoZ. (ie. JSA, risk assessment, PPE assessment, ergonomics, IH monitoring and sampling, Process Hazard Analysis experience). Correctly assesses risks and proposes corrective actions. Effectively communicates risk and control options to senior management teams.EHS Risk Control: Uses Risk Assessment results to select appropriate control strategies. (ie. elimination, work resign, engineering controls, administrative and PPE controls). Ensures that layers of protection and plans are in place to prevent, eliminate, reduce, mitigate EHS risks. Leverages management system to continuously improve controls and reduce risk. Communicates business case for controls to Senior Management. Escalates unacceptable risk or inadequate controls. Applies the Design with EHS in Mind concept to eliminate process/product/business risk.EHS Compliance & Conformance: Analyzes, interprets and responds to EHS requirements. Identifies and translates requirements to those affected. Leads Incident investigation and root cause analyses to find causes of non-compliance/non-conformance. Leverages knowledge and collaboration to clarify requirements. Applies knowledge to ensure compliance gaps and non-conformances are tracked to completion commensurate with risk. Manages systems that deliver robust compliance. Identifies, analyzes, communicates challenges to compliance (external regulatory requirements) and conformance (internal requirements).EHS Management Systems: Designs, operates, leverages and maintains strong management system designed to provide the structured processes that support execution of the Afton EHS policy and drives continuous improvement. (ISO-14001 and/or RC-1400:2015 management systems standards). Integrates the management system with key business processes to ensure EHS is embedded in the culture and decision making. Introduces goals and success measures to ensure strong and effective management system.Stakeholder Engagement: Builds strong relationships with critical Stakeholders checking in routinely for alignment and proactively sharing. Partners with stakeholders to gain support for EHS initiatives and enhance reputation.Decision Making: Makes decisions in a methodical, logical and calculated way. Clearly defines a problem before evaluating solutions. Able to use available information and experience to make good judgment calls. Uses data to clarify situations.
