GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs Intermediate, paraprofessional work in coordinating and conducting environmental educational programs for summer camp children. Oversees and instructs camp sessions for children of various age groups on a daily basis in activities, crafts and field trips. Work is performed under general supervision of the Environmental Program Coordinator.
Essential Functions
+ Plans, organizes and conducts environmental camp sessions to summer camp children; ensures safety of all participants
+ Schedules, prepares and presents indoor and outdoor educational programs and activities
+ Trains and oversees Counselors In Training (CIT)
+ Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures
+ Prepares, organizes, and maintains data, documentation, and reports regarding the summer camp program
RELATED TASKS:
+ Assures proper guidance and supervision of participants
+ Takes attendance, performs regular child counts
+ Maintains control over participants and administers discipline as needed
+ Models promptness, manners, language, appearance and safety for camp participants
+ Interacts positively with campers and parents; ensures compliance with safety policies and procedures
+ Handles and cares for live specimens including reptiles and marine specimens collected while fishing/seining
+ Inventories, maintains, cleans, stores and recommends purchase of all camp equipment and supplies
+ Performs other tasks as directed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
+ flora, fauna and ecosystems indigenous to South Florida, particularly the dune, coastal hammock and mangrove communities
Skilled in:
+ computers, video and audio equipment
+ Microsoft Office programs
Ability to:
+ prepare and maintain records and reports
+ establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants, and the general public
+ develop, schedule and conduct lectures/presentations, new programs, crafts and/or activities related to the environment
+ maintain control over a group of children, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
+ follow directions, work as a member of a team and independently
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
+ Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, plus college level course work in education, environmental or biological sciences, ecology, conservation or similar natural science preferred.
+ Experience working with young children.
+ Experience in fishing, snorkeling and canoeing required.
+ Experience working with the public and public speaking preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS / PROFESSIONAL LICENSES:
+ CPR and First Aid certification preferred but not required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
POST-OFFER BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
Must pass a Level II background check, which includes a FDLE and FBI fingerprint check pursuant to F.S. 435, in addition to the City's background investigation and drug test.

CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARY
Part-Time Employees
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible to receive Paid Leave and to contribute to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, a part-time employee must have worked at least 1,040 hours in the prior fiscal year
PAID LEAVE: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will receive twelve (12) hours of Paid Leave on October 1st. This Paid Leave shall be used no later than September 30th of that fiscal year or it will be forfeited. These hours may not accumulate and may only be granted with the approval of the employee's supervisor. This paid leave has no cash value at separation of employment.
MISSION SQUARE 457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will be allowed to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. The City will not provide any matching funds.
