The Development Services Department (DSD) assists homeowners, business owners, and contractors when they build, demolish, remodel or perform any type of construction to ensure compliance with applicable city and building codes.

Position Overview:
DSD is seeking an Environmental Compliance Supervisor in the Entertainment Services Division. The division reviews and approves sound permits for both permanent venues and special events, partners with venues and businesses to support music and entertainment in Austin while ensuring compliance and quality of life for area residents and visitors, and serving as a liaison to industry, residents, and city departments to promote collaboration, safety and well-managed establishments and districts.

All outdoor amplified music at commercial establishments and special events in Austin requires a permit. The purpose of the permit is to assess and limit impacts to the surrounding community and to support both outdoor amplified sound at establishments and residential quality of life. Every permit includes a sound impact plan that specifies the allowances and restrictions for decibel limits and operating hours, as well as other details that the establishment must comply with. The Environmental Compliance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the field staff that respond to complaints, educate establishments on permit requirements, investigate to determine if a permit violation has occurred, seek compliance, and take enforcement actions as needed to gain compliance.

Please Note: This position has a regular schedule of evening, late night, weekend hours and some holidays to accommodate music and nightlife industry standards. Ability to work evening, late night, weekends and select holidays as a regular and permanent schedule is required. Specific days and hours to be determined and will include at least three (3) and potentially four (4) nighttime shifts on weekdays (4pm-12am) and weekends (6pm-2am), and will include at least one (1) and potentially two (2) weekday daytime shifts.

1. Plans and coordinates daily activities and operations of environmental personnel to support departmental objectives.
2. Develops goals, objectives, and resource requirements for activities.
3. Develops, revises, and implements standard operating practice, policy, and procedure. Interprets and explains environmental regulations. Ensures compliance with all city policies and procedures.
4. Prepares, monitors, and ensures section operates within appropriated budget.
5. Coordinates and monitors the safety of environmental personnel in the field.
6. Coordinates the activities of contractors providing waste management and spill response services.
7. Oversees and schedules training of environmental compliance personnel.
8. Receives, investigates, and monitors environmental compliance customer complaints and ensures their resolution.
9. Writes, drafts, and completes reports and documents. Reviews regulatory reports prepared by subordinates.
