Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) provides essential services that protect people and our planet. The City of Austin has committed to achieving zero waste by the year 2040, an initiative that requires new thinking, policy, and communications about the way we buy, use and dispose of everyday items. This position will be part of the Strategic Initiatives Division and reside as part of the Circular Economy Program.

Day-to-day responsibilities for this role may include (but are not limited to) coordinating interdepartmental zero waste and circular economy programs focusing on outreach and education to City staff, providing 1:1 technical training and assistance to facility managers to assist with compliance and improve recycling of traditional waste streams, and communicating with City staff via shared email inbox and Microsoft Teams. The ideal candidate will have technical presentation skills, process improvement experience, and experience with various tracking systems and software to complete those types of tasks.

This position is eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. This is a federal program designed to encourage individuals to work in public service by forgiving the balance of their federal student loans upon meeting program requirements.

Communicates project and program information to internal and external customers through presentations, reports, tours, instructional videos, and technical training. Compiles, analyzes, interprets, and develops informational and educational materials. Prepares necessary reports and documents for support of projects and programs. Maintains technical awareness of internal and external business issues at it relates to area of responsibility. Represents Department or Division by interacting with various boards, commissions, special interest groups, outside organizations, and other City Departments and Divisions. Trains, coordinates, and supervises the work of volunteers. Responds to requests from the media. Evaluates projects, programs, and performance measures and criteria. Assists in the development of short-and long-range plans for projects and programs. Reviews and interprets policies, codes, regulations, and ordinances. Assists in the development of departmental and divisional processes and procedures.
