Mission/Summary

Develop and implement environmental programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local standards and in support of Graphic Packaging’s environmental guidelines including but not limited to air permitting, hazardous and non-hazardous wastes collection and disposal, beneficial reuse programs, chemical reporting (Tier II, Form R), groundwater, drinking water, and wastewater and stormwater management. They understand and align business operations and environmental compliance as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.
 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

 

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for existing permits and future projects. Air Permitting Review projects for regulatory impact Perform PSD and netting analyses as needed Prepare and submit air permits Meet with regulators as required to obtain permit and during routine inspections Identify alternate permitting strategies when available Air Compliance Assist with recordkeeping and reporting as needed Wastewater and Stormwater Programs Assist with permitting and programs as needed Manage and perform required sampling Meet with regulators as required to obtain permit and during routine inspections Hazardous and Solid Waste Management Waste Characterization Proper Waste Disposal Monitor Waste Generation Coordinate compliance with universal waste standard Identify and implement projects to reduce water and waste. Assist with Beneficial Reuse projects, including sludge, ash, lime, etc. Provide SPCC oversight and update program as needed. Develop and implement plant environmental training in support of the written environmental programs. Provide environmental expertise and leadership to plant staff, operations, maintenance, engineering, and laboratory. Perform periodic environmental audits, develop recommendations for environmental program and performance improvement.  Develop, track, analyze and communicate plant environmental reporting and statistics. Organize workload so that applicable regulatory deadlines are met. Continue to increase professional environmental knowledge through reading, training, conference attendance, etc.  Develop a network of key environmental contacts in regulatory agencies, trade organizations and consulting firms.  Keep up-to-date on new and developing regulations. Support company business objectives. Actively support the mill safety program.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

5-10 years’ experience in environmental or process engineering 5-10 years’ experience in manufacturing preferably pulp and paper

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

BS Environmental Science, Engineering or related field or; Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.

 

SKILLS:

Proficient computer skills in MS Office and database programs.  Self-starter, good people skills, strong personal leadership, organizational skills, oral and written communication skills. Understanding of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations in Louisiana and Region 6 EPA.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying and driving.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours. Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs and outdoor work. Reading computer screen or other electronic devices. Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
