Environmental Engineer I

We are seeking an entry level scientist or engineer to join our team in support of our Research Laboratory Support (RLS) contract with the U.S. EPA located in Research Triangle Park, NC. This early career professional will have the opportunity to continually learn and develop new skill sets as research objectives change. The ideal candidate enjoys teamwork and working in a flexible environment.

Responsibilities may include\:

Performing duties as assigned in conjunction with project leaders. Contributing on a variety of research tasks. Examples include\: Operation and evaluation of air quality measurement technologies in laboratory and field environments. Operation and evaluation of in-room and in-duct air cleaners in the aerosol test facility. Design and test of novel aerosol sampling equipment. Laboratory and field evaluation of bioaerosol detection and identification instruments. Helping process large data sets using available software packages including R, Python and Excel. 

·    Originating and/or revising standard operating procedures, quality assurance plans, and work plans as related to research tasks.

·    Reviewing data to ensure compliance with project data quality goals and to identify areas for improvement in the quality system.

Documenting activities and recording observations in record books in accordance with quality assurance project plans.

·    Maintaining hard-copy and/or electronic records of measurement results and reporting in accordance with our and the EPA records management protocols.  

·    Performing laboratory work in accordance with the company's established and EPA safety and quality assurance protocols.

Years of experience\: 0-2 year

Education\: B.S. Degree in Engineering or Physics from an accredited institution.

·         Strong attention to detail.

·         Comfortable with using hand tools, i.e., wrenches and screwdrivers.

·         Laboratory experience through coursework, internship and/or prior work experience.

·         Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere.

·         Ability to work independently when necessary.

·         Proficient with basic computer applications such as MS Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications\:

·        Fluency with a programming language i.e., Python and/or R

Inside?  Outside? Combination? Where?\: Laboratory or Indoor setting, 75% Extreme (hot/cold) temperatures involved\: Some field work, up to 25%
