The Tetra Tech Northeast Operations is seeking an Environmental Engineer within the Mid-Atlantic region including areas in PA, VA, and WV. The selected candidate will provide engineering and general technical support for environmental assessment and remediation projects. The candidate will also support sediment transport modeling and hydraulic modeling.

Responsibilities may include:

Manage site remediation projects that require initiative and working knowledge of site remediation requirements under PA (if applicable) and Federal regulations. Perform environmental assessments relating to treatment at hazardous waste sites, spills, and oil and hazardous waste emergencies. Assessments may include the following areas: extent of chemical contamination, physical parameters of contaminated matrices, volume and/or mass contaminants, migration pathways, and topographical and meteorological characteristics of the site. Conduct feasibility studies, engineering evaluations/cost analyses, and comparative evaluations of technical alternatives for remedy selection. Conduct process reviews to include equipment sizing, processing schemes, and cost estimates of selected treatment options. Provide field support in monitoring full-scale site cleanups. Recommend a plan or design for conducting treatability studies for potential treatment technologies from the bench scale (laboratory phase) through field scale. The studies will be applicable to soil, groundwater, sediments, and in-situ systems. Design and coordinate the delivery of remedial systems operations and maintenance (O&M) services.

 

Qualifications:

Tetra Tech is seeking an engineer (environmental, civil, or wastewater) with 5-15 years of project experience implementing remediation projects and related studies/design work. Applicant should have experience and working knowledge related to:

engineering/remediation studies (treatability/feasibility investigations, technology evaluations, and/or process reviews) evaluation of cleanup technologies or techniques for hazardous wastes operations and maintenance (O&M) experience of remedial systems such as groundwater pump and treat systems and landfill closure systems design and O&M of wastewater treatment systems

Applicant should have working knowledge of regulations:

PA Act 2 program and standards PA solid waste / landfill closure regulations CERCLA  NPDES

Up-to-date HAZWOPER certificate is preferred. Experience with CERCLA and/or oil subsurface investigations is required. Experience working with PA Department of Environmental Protection is desired. Technical report and paper writing skills are required.

Desired Skills in the ideal candidate include:

Excellent communication, client interaction, and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications are required. Hydraulic and contaminant transport modeling, GIS data analysis and geo-statistics, coding (VBA, Python, etc.), and data management skills a plus. Applicants are urged to present specific skills related to the experience requirements.

Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a motor vehicle records check.

 

Education and Certifications:

Bachelors Degree in Environmental Engineering, or other engineering degree with relevant experience.  If living in Pennsylvania, an active PA PE is desired.

 

Work Environment:

The position's primary work environment is in the office. The position will require occasional travel to project locations or client offices to conduct meetings, site visits, etc. These sites may be outside, exposing the candidate to weather conditions and varying terrain. Site visits or other meetings may involve long periods of time in a motor vehicle. Some occasional evening and/or weekend work and/or travel will be required.
