Environmental Health and Safety Manager

The Position:

The EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) Manager will oversee and ensure the safe and efficient operation of our facility's infrastructure and environmental systems. This role combines expertise in facilities management with a strong foundation in EHS principles to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and promote a culture of safety within the organization. This position is responsible for managing EHS programs across all US Veracyte locations which currently include Austin, San Diego and San Francisco. This is an onsite position located either in our San Diego or South San Francisco location and will report to the Director of Facilities. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the facility to ensure operational efficiency and reliability.   Maintain EHS policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations across all Veracyte US locations.    Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures.   Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, emergency contact lists, and first-aid resources. Conduct regular drills and training for staff.   Provide ongoing EHS training to employees, ensuring they are informed of risks, prevention strategies, and emergency response protocols.   Lead investigations into accidents, near-misses, and environmental incidents, identifying root causes and implementing preventive measures to avoid recurrence.   Coordinate with external vendors and contractors to ensure that services are delivered safely and meet our EHS standards.    Oversee maintenance and construction projects from a safety perspective.   Support the development and implementation of sustainability projects to reduce the environmental impact of facility operations.   Maintain accurate records and reports on EHS metrics, incident reports, inspection findings, and corrective actions. Prepare reports for regulatory agencies as required.  

Who You Are:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS, ideally in the life sciences industry. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.  Professional certification in EHS or Facilities Management preferred but not required (e.g., CSP, CHFM).  In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations and standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).  Experience in emergency preparedness, risk assessments, and incident investigation.  Strong project management and vendor management skills.  Excellent communication, leadership, and training skills.  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  Proficient in the use of EHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.  This position may require availability outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, to address emergency situations or maintenance needs.  Physical activities including walking, standing, and lifting may be required. 

 

 

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.

Pay range$120,000—$149,000 USD
