Job Type: Full-time with overtime, based out of New Hampton, IA

Experience: Construction and Manufacturing Industries

Reports to: EHS Director, no supervisory responsibility

Wage: $55,000-65,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)

Job Summary:

An Environmental Health and Safety Officer is not your typical position. Experience a wide array of on-site inspections, permitting, and reporting at 20-25 ready mix and aggregate locations. Take ownership of your role by ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety standards, performing and coordinating new hire screens,  performing investigations of incidents, assisting in annual training, and working with a team that feels like family.

Primary Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with all environmental health and safety standards promulgated by local, state, federal, and environmental agencies through the development of on-site assessments and monitoring programs. Including but not limited to inspections, permitting, and reporting. Perform and coordinate company and federally regulated drug testing. Provide employees with the knowledge and resources necessary for environmental health and safety awareness by coordinating continued educational classes. Complete new hire orientation, and drug testing, and assist with arranging post-offer pre-work screens. Perform investigations of environmental health and safety incidents to assist with the development of employee injury and accident prevention programs, monitor program effectiveness, and make program adjustments as necessary. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations, and procedures, and implementing environmental health and safety procedures. Develop, implement, and enforce environmental health and safety protocols through proper documentation. Skills in performing on-site environmental health and safety inspections by ensuring compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, local state, and federal standards, and environmental agencies. Operation of Windows-based computers and related company equipment. Work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. Maintain and communicate Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) results to the field and leadership team. Team player mentality and eagerness to cross-train. Willingness to perform duties outside the normal scope of work as this job description is non-exhaustive.

 

Position Requirements:

Consent to authorization of a pre-employment work screen, Motor Vehicle Record request, and drug test. Must have a valid driver’s license and will travel to numerous facilities. OSHA, MSHA, OSHA, and DOT knowledge and experience. Knowledge of environmental compliance with Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin DNR is preferred. Experience in construction and manufacturing industries. Self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills. Understand instructions from supervisory positions, both written and verbal forms. Possess excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms. Dependability and reliability by showing up to scheduled shifts on time and being prepared for work. A positive attitude is critical to ensure productive working relationships with co-workers and management. Continuous exposure to weather elements including heat, cold, noise, dusty conditions, and working outdoors. Overnight travel is not standard but may be required.
