Summary:

Manages the organization’s health and safety programs.Conducts periodic on-site facility audits to check for compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.Investigates the root causes of accidents and prepares reports with the findings and corrective actions.Prepares and administers the safety training and incentive programs.Handles day-to-day claims activity for workers compensation and return to work program.Coordinates asbestos and other hazardous materials abatement projects.Leads safety meetings and acts as a resource for the Facilities Department. 

Distinguishing Characteristics: 

The Facilities Safety Manager must have experience that includes safety program development and working with stakeholders to implement policies and procedures.Willing to partner and provide solutions with complex compliance issues.Additionally, this classification may oversee the Environmental Health and Safety Technician or Intern.  

 

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities: 

The Facilities Safety Manager reports to the Facilities Support Services Director.This classification may oversee Safety Technician or Intern.   Responsibilities Develops, implements, and monitors the safety management programs based on evaluation of organizational expertise, applicable law, regulations, and accepted practice; ensures that the departments comply with federal, state, and local requirements.Serves as Safety Committee Chair for the Facilities Department; consults with staff on a wide variety of safety issues, policies, and concerns.Implements, safety committee recommendations; monitors the effectiveness of the recommendations.Develops, implements, and monitors the safety and training programs for the Facilities Department.Maintains training records for the department; ensures that appropriate training is given for compliance.Develops and conducts formal training programs covering a variety of areas associated with staff safety, facility environment, disaster preparedness, emergency preparedness, and new programs or regulations.Responds to employee safety concerns, by examining safety issues, preparing corrective actions and ensuring appropriate follow-up.Oversees and ensures compliance with certifications aspects associated with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.Serves as a resource to departments in developing safe working habits and maintaining a safe working environment.Oversees and manages all workers compensation claims and the Return to workConducts routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspections of UniversityAnalyzes accident and incident reports for trends; makes recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.Inspects & manages asbestos/hazardous materials abatement. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related fieldMinimum 5 years of safety related experienceRequired to wear a respiratorAsbestos abatement & inspection within 6 months of hire.Lead abatement & inspection within 6 months of hire.Willing to partner with stakeholders and provide solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred
