Environmental Health and Safety Specialist II

Environmental Health and Safety Specialists at The Jackson Laboratory are responsible for developing, organizing, administering, monitoring, and evaluating EHS programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. They accomplish this by leveraging strong communication and collaboration skills to involve and engage leaders and employees in the important work of maintaining a safe workplace, and in protecting the environment by supporting the organization's sustainability initiatives led by Facilities Services.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Participate in various leader and employee engagement activitiesConduct regular EHS audits and inspections to identify and eliminate hazards, risks, and non-conformitiesDevelop and update EHS policies, procedures, and plans in accordance with legal requirements and best practicesProvide EHS training and awareness programs to employees and contractors on topics such as hazard identification, risk assessment, emergency response, incident reporting, etc.Investigate and report EHS incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective and preventive actionsMonitor and measure EHS performance and effectiveness using key performance indicators (KPIs) and management reviewsLiaise with internal and external stakeholders, such as management, employees, customers, suppliers, regulators, auditors, etc., on EHS mattersMaintain and improve our EHS programs and management systemsSupport the preparation and execution of internal and external EHS audits and certificationsStay updated on the latest EHS trends, regulations, and standards, and advise the organization on the implications and opportunities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

A bachelor's degree in environmental, health and safety, engineering, or a related field preferred5 years of experience in EHS compliance and management systems, preferably in a similar industryAbility to become professionally certified in area(s) of responsibility.Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, laws, and standards, such as OSHA, EPA, etc.A strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracyStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse teamsA high level of initiative, self-motivation, and accountabilityA proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS software applicationsAbility to wear personal protective equipment


Education Required: Bachelor's Degree
Education Preferred: Master's Degree
Experience Required: 5 years
Experience Preferred: 7 year

Pay Range: $68,344 - $99,099
