Location Description The Lawrence, Kansas facility is 236,000 square feet and home to about 155 hard working team members who are proud to produce iconic pet food brands like Kibbles 'n Bits®. Lawrence is a college town and the home to both the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University with Kansas State University about 85 miles away. The city is known for a thriving music and art scene and is also the home of the University of Kansas athletic teams. Responsibilities OVERVIEW Under the direction of the Health, Safety, Environment, and Security Manager, the EHS Specialist is accountable for supporting safety & environmental programs across the Lawrence plant. The EHS Specialist serves as a resource relating to safety management, ensuring employee education and compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations, provides technical expertise on work-related injury avoidance, and supports all environmental requirements/reporting. In addition, this position will support and maintain food safety and quality practices as required through SQF. PERKS OF BEING A TEAM MEMBER Positive culture sustained through committed team members who strive for excellence Annual bonus incentive Generous paid time off (PTO) plans including paid holidays Competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits Company-paid life insurance Company-paid and electable leave programs 401k participation with company match Education Assistance available Wellness program with quarterly cash payout RESPONSIBILITIES Provide support in managing our workplace safety program Assist with ensuring compliance for all corporate, local, state and federal safety regulations Administer safety and accident prevention training to all new employees Conduct/provide accident investigations and associated corrective actions Assist with the safety incident management system across the plant Assist with safety activities, i.e., monthly audits, monthly meetings, and publishing/posting of metrics Conduct PPE assessments Identify/escalate any environmental risks and solutions for risk reduction Support environmental compliance programs, corporate task tracking and other corporate initiatives Support safety operations everyday onsite during inspections, meetings, industry gatherings and project planning Work with all employees to enhance safety performance and develop control programs Assist with updating environmental, health, and safety policies across the plant as needed Other duties as assigned Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Associate's degree or equivalent training to specific environmental, health, or safety subject matter, desirable but not required Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred Strong safety knowledge and experience with regulations; Certified Safety Professional certification desirable but not required Customer service focused Demonstrated ability to lead and drive change in a team environment Excellent at organizational influence Strong communication skills; able to communicate effectively across various levels and departments Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, etc Willing to flex work schedule based on company needs COMPENSATION Starts at $29.33/hr
