Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space System Division has an opening for an Environmental, Health, & Safety Engineering Manager 3, to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

Job Summary:

Develops, interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies. Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. Finds, evaluates, and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling. Organizes and equips spill-control teams. Writes and updates environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures. Prepares environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals. Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.

This position will report to the SSSD Safety & Mission Assurance Director and will act as the program manager for environmental sustainability project development and overall Environmental, Health, Safety, and Medical program management.  The EHS Manager will also act as the lead for all environmental compliance and reporting requirements for SSSD, driving EHS regulatory compliance and excellence in environmental sustainability. The successful candidate is responsible for effective implementation of the SSSD and Space Sector sustainability program goals that includes working with multiple sites and functional areas in the development and implementation of projects focused on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction, waste diversion, and water usage reduction. The EHS Manager serves as the primary environmental compliance expert for SSSD to support EPA chemical and remediation regulations that warrant documented management of sites requiring adequate reserves for monitoring and remediation completion activities.

The successful candidate will lead and liaise with both Space Sector Environmental Sustainability and SSSD leaders in the development of tasks to support Division goals and to support distribution of EHS and sustainability-related information to diverse audiences, including non-technical employees and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manages the SSSD Environmental, Safety, Health, and Medical staff activities to include daily tasks, schedules, budget and overall objective oriented direction.   Advises lower level managers in the development of ESHM and sustainability projects to include cost, schedule and technical performance and other tasks to reach the organization’s goals. 

Leads strategic planning for all environmental sustainability projects for SSSD and Space Park site operations.  This includes analysis of alternative approaches to achieving both Division and Sector goals.  Manage the collection and tracking of all water, GHG and solid waste data from the sector.

Establishes operational procedures for SSSD environmental compliance and sustainability programs.

Provide senior leadership with periodic updates regarding sustainability program status, recommendations to accomplish both Division and Sector goals and objectives and monitoring the implementation of best management practices

Influences the development of sector wide environmental sustainability objectives and long range goals.  Provides leadership in strategy and schedule management.

Champion best practice sharing and learning between facilities, functional groups, and sectors

Occasional travel to various Northrop Grumman facilities is expected

Manage a team within the larger organizational unit, setting & operating to objectives & providing guidance to subordinates based on goals, objectives & company policy.

Regularly performs analysis of alternative courses of action. Decisions have risk/reward implications for program or area of influence.

Collaborate and coordinate with other functional managers, process center leaders, value stream leaders and value stream owner(s) to meet division, value stream, and quality objectives.

Flexible Schedules:  For example, some roles offer the ability to work a 9/80 work schedule, which allows an employee to work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday and take every other Friday off of work

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Environmental, or Engineering with at least 10 years of experience OR Master’s Degree in Science, Environmental, or Engineering with at least 8 years of experience

At least 5 years experience with project management

At least 5 years experience in sustainability, carbon accounting and reporting, and energy management

Experience with environmental sustainability programs to include greenhouse gas reduction, water use reduction and solid waste diversion programs

Ability to communicate, manage and achieve site tactical and strategic goals for assigned value stream.

Must have at least a Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance

Must be able to work onsite

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with managing the environmental, health, and safety aspects of a manufacturing site, preferably aerospace

Salary Range: $154,600.00 - $231,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
