JOB SUMMARY

 

EHS Manager is responsible for coordinating environmental, health and safety activities for the San Diego locations. This position is responsible to develop, implement and manage an environmental, health and safety program to ensure compliance with corporate policy and applicable local and Federal laws. Establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free and healthy work environment through development, implementation and control of plant safety programs that are proactive and involve the participation of all employees. Responsible to insure company has a EHS program that meets national, local, and corporate requirements, deploys best practices across the business unit.

 

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

• Develops implements and executes various training programs for safety and environment, designed to ensure overall plant safety and environmental commitment and enhance awareness throughout the business unit.
• Performs audits to identify occupational and environmental hazards and implement programs to eliminate them.
• Develops implements and controls the plant safety program to ensure safe and healthy working conditions and the reduction or elimination of industrial hazards.
• Champions safety management committees and employee involvement teams.
• Ensures compliance with regulations enforced through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Transportation (DOT) and all other state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to safety and the environment. Maintains awareness of other international and regional standards to insure local EHS coordinators and plant managers/site supervisors are complying with local regulations.
• Insures all incidents and injuries are thoroughly investigated and ensures preparation of required material and evidence for any further corrective/preventative actions that may be required.
• Reviews the design and construction of new equipment, facilities and processes to ensure they meet safety and environmental requirements. Ensure that the PPL Management of Change process is followed.
• Coordinates cash cost reduction projects in all facets including vendor leverage, regulatory relief, critical resource management and waste minimization.
• Provides input and manages safety and environmental expense budgets and associated capital budgets
• Maintains all required environmental permits (Air Permit, Industrial Waste Water Discharge, etc.) to ensure local site compliance.
• Prepares various reports to corporate, state and federal agencies to fulfill regulatory requirements.
• Represents the company as the Environmental Management Representative responsible for implementation and maintenance of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
• Provide timely technical expertise to management on all issues involving environmental compliance with the local, state and federal requirements.
• Maintain all environmental files in a manner that are readily available for inspection by regulating agencies.
• Comply with ISO requirements in designated responsible area.
• Answers customer requests for statements on product compliance related to environmental guidelines (Prop 65, CONEG, etc.)

  QUALIFICATIONS

 

Strong computer skills, ideally with experience using Windows-based PC programs. Ability to coordinate multiple group efforts within the company to achieve objectives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational and problem solving skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks, with awareness of deadlines. Ability to identify processes needing improvement, and to recommend improvements. Proven track record as a strong experienced leader/manager of complex materials, inventory, and planning organizations Ability to turn goals into actionable results with a proven record of accomplishments Highly pro-active with the ability to work to deadlines

 

 

REQUIRED

 

Bachelor’s degree Operations Management or equivalent business experience. Lean / Six Sigma training and implementation
