About this Position: This position primarily serves as the supervisor and coordinator (Director's designee) for the administration of the Department's intercounty drain responsibilities under P.A. 40 of 1956 as amended. This includes: + Statewide responsibility for chairing over 775 + intercounty drain drainage boards whose members are the elected county drain/water resources & public works commissioners from the affected counties; + Represent the Director on all irrigation boards organized under P.A. 205 or 1967 as amended; + Providing expertise on general drainage and water law, surface and groundwater management, special assessment taxes and great lakes issues to county drain commissioners, conservation districts, local officials, landowners, state, and federal agencies, the legislature and the general public. + Represent the Director as a member of the Michigan Association of County Drain Commissioners on their Executive Board and Legislative Committee and other committees of mutual interest to MDARD. Required Education and Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in the physical sciences, biological sciences, resource management, sanitary science, environmental health, engineering, geology, or in geological, petroleum, or mining engineering. Experience Five years of professional experience in an engineering or scientific field carrying out geological and/or environmental activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources; working in an environmental protection program; or, enforcing environmental health or environmental protection laws, including three years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level, two years equivalent to the advanced (12) level, or one year equivalent to a 13-level specialist or manager.
