Job Description: Environmental Officer – LNG Plant Construction (Omani Nationals Only)

Job Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Environmental Officer to oversee environmental compliance and sustainability practices on a major LNG plant construction project in Oman. The role involves ensuring that all construction activities adhere to local environmental regulations, international standards, and project-specific environmental management plans (EMPs).
This position is strictly open to Omani nationals in support of the national workforce development strategy.

Key Responsibilities: Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with Omani environmental laws, permits, and international environmental standards applicable to LNG construction projects. Environmental Monitoring: Conduct site inspections, audits, and environmental monitoring activities related to air quality, water quality, waste management, noise, and soil contamination. Permit & Documentation Management: Maintain and track environmental permits, impact assessments, and compliance reports required by regulatory authorities. Waste & Pollution Control: Implement and monitor waste management programs, ensuring proper disposal and mitigation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Erosion & Sediment Control: Oversee land disturbance activities and ensure best practices are followed to prevent soil erosion and sedimentation. Incident Investigation & Reporting: Support the investigation of environmental incidents, recommend corrective actions, and ensure proper reporting to authorities. Training & Awareness: Conduct environmental awareness programs and training for construction teams and subcontractors on best practices and regulatory requirements. Sustainability & Conservation: Promote sustainable construction practices, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and biodiversity protection. Emergency Response: Assist in the development and implementation of spill response plans and environmental emergency preparedness measures. Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate with government agencies, contractors, and internal project teams on environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives. Qualifications & Experience: Omani National (Mandatory) Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental management, preferably on LNG, oil & gas, or industrial construction projects. Strong understanding of Omani environmental regulations, IFC, ISO 14001, and environmental impact assessments (EIA). Experience in environmental monitoring, reporting, and compliance audits. Proficiency in environmental management software, GIS, or data analysis tools is a plus. Certifications in environmental management (ISO 14001, NEBOSH Environmental, IEMA, etc.) are an advantage. Preferred Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication in English and Arabic. Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and coordinate with multiple stakeholders. Knowledge of LNG plant environmental risks and mitigation strategies.
