Environmental Planning Group Manager

Job Description
Terracon is currently seeking a Natural Resource Lead to join our Cleveland, Ohio Team! Our multi-disciplined environmental team in Ohio works on wetlands delineation and permitting, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, Brownfield projects, environmental site assessments, remediation, redevelopment, and site renovation work for both public and private entities.

You will work together with the Environmental Planning (natural and cultural resources) staff in the Eastern Midwest Division and throughout the Eastern Operating Group to prepare winning proposals and manage projects for waters of the US (WOTUS delineations, permitting, and mitigation) NEPA (categorical exclusions, EAs, EIS documents), and threatened and endangered species (T&E) related services. You will manage projects, clients, prepare and review reports, and coach and mentor staff on quality data generation and reporting.

You will have the opportunity to assist with operations of a growing team with a focus on safety, staff training & development, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and overall quality and client experience. In addition, you will participate in business development activities with the office leadership team to identify, develop, win, and execute exciting project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:Responsible for preparation of proposals and cost estimates.With support from the Department/Office manager perform business and client development activities for growing the Natural Resources team.Complete and supervise WOTUS delineations and prepare associated reports and permit applications, including Pre-Construction Notifications for Nationwide Permits and Individual/Standard Permits.Lead and conduct Threatened and Endangered Species Surveys and coordinate with staff from other offices on specific species or manage subcontractors.Collaborate with other Environmental Planning managers and staff in other Terracon offices to team on large project efforts and promote best practices.Manage Natural Resource projects within the upper MidwestMentor junior staff and supervise staff.Conduct client development activities and work with our marketing team to continue and develop in natural resource services in Northeast Ohio and surrounding regions.Understand and implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines.Promote continuous quality review and improvement on projects.Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection in area of technical expertise.Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) professional service related to: National Environmental Policy Act documentation, Clean Water Act Section 404 (& 401 WQC) permitting, Threatened or Endangered Species assessments, or natural resources mitigation-restoration planning.Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices. Engage APRs on projects at their onset.Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology. Biology, or related discipline and 9 or more years of experience in the practice.Experience with Threatened and Endangered Species Surveys and applying the Endangered Species Act within the upper Midwest.Experience in conducting and managing WOTUS delineations, as well as permitting with US Army Corps of Engineers(Section 10 and 404) and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.Ability to direct staff technicians regarding data collection, preparation of figures and maps, and report production.Experience leading Ohio Department of Transportation projects is preferred.Ability to mentor junior staff and supervise staff.Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.Preferred CertificationProfessional Wetland ScientistCertified Environmental Planner
