ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY SPECIALIST (NC) Print (https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/cincinnati/jobs/newprint/4815295) Apply  ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY SPECIALIST (NC) Salary $67,019.43 - $90,068.51 Annually Location Ohio 45202, OH Job Type Full-time Classified Job Number 25-01330 Department Metropolitan Sewer District Opening Date 01/31/2025 Closing Date 2/14/2025 11:59 PM Eastern + Description + Benefits + Questions General Statement of Duties Conduct on-site inspections and investigations to ensure industrial wastewater compliance and audit required documentation. • Provide direct supervision of industrial waste inspectors. • Maintain database on industrial discharges. • Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities. • Represent division to other city departments and outside agencies. • Explain, justify and defend departmental programs, policies, and activities. • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local industrial wastewater discharge codes, rules, and regulations. • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including outside agencies, internal coworkers, and the general public. • Process applications and prepare permits for Industrial Users. • Assess the implementation of best management plans. • Review and evaluate self-monitoring reports for compliance. • Initiate enforcement for non-compliance. • Process data from surcharge studies for transfer to GCWW for billing. • Works independently with recurring work on their own initiative. • Responds to emergency callouts, spills, fires, dumps or other similar emergency events. • Request and review Wastewater Discharge Permit Applications from historic, new, and emerging businesses and industries. • Issue Wastewater Discharge Permits to historic, new, and emerging businesses and industries where required by rule or policy. • Maximize MSD investment in the Septage Receiving Station by working with haulers, generators, and MSD staff to identify and accept compatible industrial wastes. This employee performs a variety of activities as they relate to the environmental and/or employee safety aspects of various City programs. Employee performs inspections, investigations, and evaluations of moderately complex operations and facilities for the enforcement of environmental and/or employee health and safety provisions of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications (KSAs) Knowledge of: Biology, chemistry, physics as they apply to environmental management and/or health and safety. Principles and practices of environmental management and/or health and safety management. Research and investigation techniques and principles. City facilities, equipment, materials, and job functions. Statistical principles and methods. English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations pertaining to environmental management and/or health and safety. Skill to: Operate computers, monitors, and various instruments in the performance of the job. Operate assigned vehicle in the course of duty. Ability to: Recommend and implement goals, policies, and procedures for providing effective and efficient environmental or health and safety practice within assigned departments. Prepare clear and concise analytical and statistical reports. Inspect moderately complex city facilities, equipment, materials, and employee work practices to determine unsafe conditions or environmental problems Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals. Conducts on-site inspections and investigations of moderately complex operations and facilities to ensure environmental or safety compliance; notifies departments of environmental or safety problems and monitors corrective action; evaluates needs for safety training and assists in training for assigned departments. Participates as a member of environmental or safety audit teams performing assessments for safety enhancements, waste minimization, pollution prevention, energy efficiency, cost reductions, improvements in compliance status, and/or mitigation of adverse health/safety or environmental impacts. Maintains, calibrates, and operates instrumentation and sampling equipment; evaluates employee exposures to chemical, physical, and environmental hazards; monitors environmental quality; responds and assists in resolution of employee health and safety hazards and environmental issues; and provides guidance to assigned departments. Assists in the preparation of analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities; analyzes reports and provides recommendations; provides input for development of written policies and procedures related to health, safety, and environmental programs; assists in the composition and distribution of internal and other documents as requested by the supervisor; Recommends and assists in the procurement of health and safety equipment to assigned departments. Retirement Plan The City provides a defined benefit pension plan for part-time and full-timeemployees. New hires and re-hired employees are required to participate in the City of Cincinnati's Retirement System (CRS), regardless of previous participation in an Ohio State pension system or any another state or federal pension system. CRS is funded by employer and employee contributions, and investment returns from plan assets. CRS provides retirement and health care benefits subject to eligibility requirements.
