Environmental Scientist/Senior Scientist
This is a role in the Environmental Safety & Sustainability (ESS) to support environmental safety research including biodegradation and ecotoxicity. The primary responsibilities associated with this role are to work jointly with project teams to develop novel sustainable ingredients and assure their environmental safety.
We are seeking a Scientist/Senior Scientist with a strong background in environmental science including environmental engineering, environmental risk assessment, environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology and/or chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, as well as proven track record of teamwork capability. The ideal candidate should have extensive understanding on chemical Phys/chem properties, the fate and transport of chemicals in the environment and their impact to ecosystem. Strong laboratory experiences on biodegradation and ecotoxicity testing are preferred. Important responsibilities of this position include:
Develop deep knowledge of biodegradation for different ingredient classes and functions.Work jointly with company experts on all environmental safety endpoints to ensure robust internal and external safety programs. Lead external influencing activities to develop improved biodegradation methods to evaluate polymer biodegradation, a new research area.Lead external influencing activities on environmental safety of ingredients and on acceptance of methods and models by regulators.The candidate will be working with the P&G experts and build deep knowledge on how to conduct environmental safety assessment on ingredients that are being developed in company’s innovation pipeline. You will be able to contribute to the safety evaluation of key company products.
At the same time, the candidate will represent P&G and lead the external influencing activities on environmental safety of ingredients through task forces or trade associations. There will be many opportunities to learn and practice project management skills and have potential to influence product safety regulatory requirements.
Job Qualifications
Master or PhD degree in science or engineering discipline is a mandatory requirement. Experienced hire will also be considered.
Previous environmental lab experience on environmental safety assays is desirable. Preferred experiences are:
Environmental chemistryHands on laboratory experience environmental safety assays especially biodegradation studiesData compilation and analysis.Lab safety compliance.Polymer chemistryDemonstrated attention to detail is critical. Must be able to critically evaluate complex data sets and apply new approaches to solve complex environmental testing questions.
Knowledge and experience of environmental safety/regulatory safety is preferred. Previous industry or academic work experience with strong environmental science related expertise will be highly valued and considered.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate data to others with diverse technical backgrounds, including within and across functions and management levels.Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to develop productive relationships across functions and geographies spanning various levels in the organization.
