We’re just built to be better. We are a great company. We are seeking an **Environmental Scientist 1 (NDEC Scientist)** to join our Redmond, WA team! Join our team in a dynamic role as a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) for WSDOT fish barrier culvert replacement construction projects near the cities of Sequim, Port Angeles, and Port Townsend. As the key point of contact, you'll collaborate with construction teams to facilitate the execution of fish-habitat enhancement projects (FHEP), specifically focused on repairing culvert barriers for migrating fish beneath US101. This position offers a unique opportunity for rapid professional growth. As site-specific FHEP projects conclude, successful candidates will transition into diverse roles and projects within the company. In addition to the CESCL responsibilities, this role encompasses a range of ecological activities, including but not limited to conducting tree inventories, vegetation surveys, reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications, assisting in wetland delineation, fish exclusion and identification, and contributing to the development of plans and reports. Apply today and be a catalyst for positive change in salmon habitat restoration. **Minimum requirements:** + Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, Geology, Engineering, or a related field. + Zero (0) to five (5) years of professional experience, making this an ideal opportunity for entry-level candidates. + Education or practical experience in stormwater, geology, engineering, biology, or another related field, showcasing a broad foundation for diverse environmental responsibilities. + Ability to work outdoors during inclement weather and on uneven ground, demonstrating a hands-on approach to environmental fieldwork. + Demonstrate a strong aptitude for fieldwork, with the majority of responsibilities involving hands-on environmental assessments and monitoring activities. + Be comfortable navigating a construction site on days that may be cold and rainy or sunny and hot. + Some night shift work may be required. **Technical requirements:** + Successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to environmental documentation, permitting, and construction monitoring for significant transportation and fish barrier projects on the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas. + Supporting development of technical environmental documentation under the lead of the Manager. + Showcase proficiency in creating figures, charts, and tables using tools such as MS Excel, Bluebeam, GIS, and other relevant platforms, enhancing the clarity and impact of technical information. + Preferred but not required: Experience in wetland delineation, tree and stream evaluations, and construction monitoring. + Possession of CESCL (stormwater qualification) and/or Certified Arborist certifications is highly desirable, although not mandatory, reflecting a commitment to professional development and specialized expertise. **Other miscellaneous qualities:** + Demonstrate adeptness in utilizing various field equipment, showcasing hands-on proficiency in collecting accurate and reliable data. + While not mandatory, a background in related environmental science fields, particularly contaminated soil and groundwater, is considered advantageous, offering a broader perspective to the role. + Be able to work independently while also thriving within collaborative team environments. + Positive, flexible team-oriented approach. + Bring a meticulous eye for detail to the table, demonstrating resourcefulness in problem-solving and contributing to the precision required for successful project outcomes. + Hold a valid driver's license, as this role may involve travel to various locations, reflecting your commitment to mobility and accessibility for project requirements. **Compensation:** $30 - $40 hourly The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law.
