We are seeking an **Environmental Scientist 3** to join our Redmond, WA team! Come join us!
**Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:**
+ Two dynamic positions are available to support critical transportation infrastructure in the Pacific Northwest. Both of the successful candidates will support Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Fish Passage projects on the Olympic Peninsula as Deputy to the Environmental Compliance Manager during the summer of 2025, with integration into Seattle area projects following substantial completion in late Fall 2025. Each of the successful candidates will have demonstrated project success in multidisciplinary environments, working with engineers, designers, regulators, biologists, and construction superintendents.
+ On-the-job conditions may range from conducting fieldwork in all weather conditions, including sampling water quality along streams, conducting natural resource surveys, and on-site construction monitoring, to running task force meetings and drafting construction work plans in the office. A core strength for these positions is stormwater compliance and permitting, but many of the tasks may involve wetland and stream regulation compliance, fish exclusion procedures, contaminated media management, and other ecological restoration and environmental monitoring duties. Familiarity with these adjacent technical disciplines will be an asset and considered a strength in the candidate. Technical writing is a critical skill as the successful candidate will be drafting, reviewing, and performing QA/QC on technical memos, reports, emails, and work plans on a regular basis.
**Minimum requirements:**
+ Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, Geology, Engineering or other related fields.
+ Three (3) to seven (7) years of professional experience in environmental monitoring, stormwater compliance, natural resource permitting, heavy civil construction or another related field.
+ Strong knowledge of state/federal regulations and environmental best practices related to stormwater management and construction impacts to sensitive areas.
+ Familiarity with complementary disciplines - ecological restoration, wetland delineation and sensitive area regulations, hazardous and contaminated media containment/management, arboriculture, fisheries biology, and/or endangered species act expertise - is desired.
+ Highly motivated individual, able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
+ Familiar with developing cost estimates and managing projects to meet budgets.
**Technical requirements:**
+ CESCL or CPESC qualification, or ability to obtain within 1 month of hiring.
+ EIT, PWS, WPIT, Certified Arborist, and/or HAZWOPER qualifications are desirable but not required.
+ Solid technical writing, editing, and quality control experience. Ability to independently develop and review reports, plans and technical memos.
+ Able to prepare easy-to-read figures, charts, and tables using MS Excel, Bluebeam, GIS or similar.
+ Understanding of critical area regulations, or other related discipline expertise, will be viewed as a strength.
**Other miscellaneous qualities:**
+ These positions will require stay on the Olympic Peninsula during the summer and fall of 2025, with long term employment continuing in the Seattle area following project completion.
+ Ability to accomplish field work in inclement weather and on uneven surfaces.
+ Able to coordinate with important clients with little to no input from a supervisor.
**Compensation:**
$87,360 - $104,000 annual salary
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
