Join a team that has the environment down to a science. **Your Opportunity** We are seeking an exceptionally talented, enthusiastic, and experienced Environmental Scientist with a keen interest in the natural sciences to join the environmental services team out of our St. Louis, Missouri office. You will play an integral role in managing tasks involving wetlands, wildlife, ecological and regulatory needs. This role will report to a Senior Project Manager and support the development and delivery of environmental studies for projects involving wind and solar electric generation facilities, electric transmission lines, natural gas pipelines, wetland and stream restorations and other projects for private, municipal, state, and federal clients. This is a full-time (40 -hour work week) position. This position will initially include working in Illinois, Missouri, and various locations throughout the Midwest, with future opportunities to collaborate with other Stantec staff around the United States. **Your Key Responsibilities** + Provide technical expertise in field data collection (e.g., wetlands, habitats, wildlife, water quality), assessment, planning, regulatory consultation, and environmental permitting. + Manage and lead our teams that collect and report on tasks, including wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, and other natural resource focused surveys. + Prepare documentation and manage tasks pursuant to NEPA, USACE, USFWS, and other federal, state, and local regulatory/permitting programs. + Identification of potential environmental impacts through reviews of engineering plans, aerials, and GIS databases. + Willingness to travel and conduct field work in potentially remote areas. Some overnight travel may occasionally be required for this position (10% or less). Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. + Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards, and Guidelines in the execution of all work. **Qualifications** **Your Capabilities and Credentials** + Background and experience in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, natural resource conservation and enhancement, wetland delineation, ecological community restoration and/or plant and animal identification skills required. + Local knowledge of plant identification to species. + Proficient with ArcGIS software for field data collection and map generation. + The ability to solve problems using critical thinking and to complete tasks with consideration to their own and the team's safety is important. + Strong verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional MS Office skills. + Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required. + Strong understanding of policies and procedures for Health, Safety, Security and Environment, including client-specific training (as required). + Conscientious, organized, and disciplined. + Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team and Business Center. + Good driving record and valid driver’s license required. **Education and Experience** + Bachelor’s degree in an environmental (botany, biology, ecology, natural resources, wildlife biology, or related field) discipline with demonstrated experience with biological surveys in the Midwest region. + Minimum 4 years of experience required in environmental planning, assessment, and permitting + Familiarity and/or experience with Section 404/401 Clean Water Act permitting is a bonus. + Technical writing and good communication skills are essential for this position.
