Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a junior-level Environmental Scientist/Permitting Specialist to join our east coast Enviro Socio Permitting team. The successful candidate will support the development of desktop reviews and wetland/natural resources permit applications, primarily for projects located in New Jersey, but also potentially located in New York State or New York City. This role would also require the coordination and/or leading field data collection, wetland/waterbody delineations, and endangered species habitat assessments in support of permit applications and environmental compliance documents, and preparation of reports to document field data collection.
This role will primarily support Arcadis’ Enviro Socio Permitting team working with clients in New Jersey, but possibly also in New York, and/or New York City. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The position will require a candidate to work both collaboratively with a team of resource specialists, planners, and engineers and have the capacity to balance varying priorities and tasks to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deliverable deadlines. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and/or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks and teams.

Role accountabilities:
As an Environmental Scientist/Permitting Specialist, you will apply your experience and technical knowledge of the New Jersey natural resources regulatory and permitting environment to work with client teams to provide high quality deliverables to support permitting for major utility, infrastructure, government, and key Arcadis clients. You will be an important member of the east coast Enviro Socio Permitting team, who will also support the Water Resiliency group, interacting with junior-, mid-, and senior-level biologists/ecologists, engineers, senior technical experts, and project managers as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Primary functions will include:
Identify potential permitting requirements and develop permitting strategy to provide guidance to internal and external teams and clients. Use strong technical writing and communications skills to support the development of technical reports, work plans, memoranda, and other environmental documents necessary to develop permit applications and supporting materials for various regulatory agencies including, but not limited to, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Support the preparation of permit applications and supporting materials in accordance with NJDEP Flood Hazard Area permitting, Tidelands conveyances, Wetlands and Open Waters permitting, Coastal/Waterfront Development permitting, New Jersey Pollution Discharge Elimination System permitting, and Water Quality Certification, Clean Water Act sections 401, 402, and 404, and Rivers and Harbors Act sections 10 and 14. Conduct wetlands and waterbodies delineations, flora/fauna surveys, and/or threatened and endangered species fields surveys in accordance with NJDEP and USACE regulatory requirements. Support task management to assist with the growth of new and existing client relationships through delivery of quality work and data.This role will have a hybrid work structure as mentioned above; however, as needed, you would conduct field assessments related to ecological aspects of projects. This requires a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours and covering difficult terrain. This role will require the ability to travel.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field 3 years+ of experience in the environmental or consulting field, with a concentration in ecology and/or natural resources Relevant regional working knowledge and experience in supporting the preparation of permit applications and supporting materials and obtaining permits in New Jersey Interest in and/or experience with evaluating project compliance with state and federal laws and environmental and regulatory processes such as NJDEP and USACE. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to support the development of comprehensive reports/permit applicationsPreferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree and three-to-five years of environmental consulting experience Proficient with using hand-held Trimble GPS, and subsequent analysis and mapping with ESRI GIS softwareWhy Arcadis?

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $70,380 - $105,570. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
