Training includes the operation of refuse/recycling collection trucks and the duties of the Environmental Services Operator I (ESO I) title. Trainees must complete the training program and obtain a New York State Class B Commercial Driver’s License, without airbrake restriction, within six months of hire. Successful candidates transition to the title of Environmental Services Operator I. Employees are under the direction of higher ranking staff. Related work is performed as required. CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE Typical Work Activities + Performs manual labor in the collection of refuse and recyclables; + Attends mandatory training programs for certification as an ESO I; + Performs laborer duties outside of the Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) when the need exists; + Follows all applicable work practices and safety rules. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from grade school PLUS; possession of a Class D New York State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License; AND a Class B New York State Commercial Driver’s License Permit. *Preference will be given to candidates who already possess a Class B New York State Commercial Driver's License.
