ChristianaCare is looking for a full-time Environmental Services Supervisor at our Christiana Hospital - Wilmington campus to direct and control the activities of personnel engaged in providing a clean, sanitary, and attractive hospital environment.

The primary schedule for this position is day shift working 7:00AM-3:30PM; as well as every other weekend and a holiday rotation. Off hours as needed.

$2500 sign-on bonus with one year FT work commitment available for eligible candidates!

Duties and responsibilities:Supervises work in progress; advises employees on the completion of difficult tasks; answers employee questions and assures adherence to procedures and standards.Communicates approved policies and procedures to subordinates and ensures compliance.Communicates daily operational occurrences to other department management personnel appropriately.Checks continuously assigned areas to be sure the work is being done accurately and personnel are following assigned schedules.Knows the schedules and standards of all assigned areas and is alert for ways to improve these standards.Knows the location of and how to use the department Material Safety Data Sheet Manual.Handles all requests with a sense of urgency and personal importance.Participates in hospital activities and committees as assigned.Instructs, orients, and trains employees in equipment operation, cost effective supply usage, sanitation standards, cleaning techniques, evaluates and (when necessary) recommends promotion or discipline of subordinate employees. Handles all disciplinary actions for those employees supervised.Schedules the work of, and assigns work to subordinate personnel ensuring completion of all necessary tasks: adjusts schedule and assignments as necessary to accommodate vacations, absences, etc.Maintains daily records related to work group performance, i.e., areas cleaned, special projects completed, maintenance work orders written and other assigned tasks. Control keys in assigned areas, pagers, sign-in and sign-out sheets.Supports all aspects of the Quality Assurance Program. Maintains good public relations with all patients, hospital staff personnel.Inspects equipment daily for cleanliness and to ensure the condition of all assigned areas is maintained in good repair.Supervises the transferring, replacing, removing of equipment and furniture. Monitors all department equipment usage in accordance with Preventative Maintenance Program.Aids department in complying with all state, federal, accrediting requirements so the institution continues to meet standards for licensure and accreditation.Aids in the purchase of supplies and equipment when necessary or as assigned.Instills a positive service-minded attitude and feeling of pride in a job well done by the housekeeping staff by demonstrating personal enthusiasm and spirit. Enters hospital activities and special events willingly.Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.

Education and experience requirements:High school graduate or equivalent. Associate or college degree is a plus. Further additional college courses desirable in English, Spanish, humanities, or technical areas.Two to five years' experience in environmental services required.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:

Knowledge of departmental/hospital policies procedures.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques.

Ability to supervise and direct subordinate personnel.

Ability to delegate work and responsibilities to subordinates and effectively evaluate their performance.

Ability to plan, organize, and implement policies and procedures.

Ability to identify/recommend improvements to workflow/systems that improve the quality of the Environmental Service function.

Ability to handle problems and resolve complaints.

Ability to establish and maintain positive interdepartmental working relationships.

Ability to maintain confidential information and materials.

Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

Ability to think analytically to prepare reports, keep records, schedule/assign work.

Skill in oral and written, interpersonal communications.

Physical demands:

Prolonged standing and walking. Ability to lift and pull objects weighing up to and occasionally.

Exceeding 40 pounds.

Working conditions:

Possible exposure to infectious disease where special precautions are followed.
