About you and this role –

Dow has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Specialist in Deer Park, TX. As the Environmental Specialist, you will be responsible for leading environmental compliance and management systems in multiple domains including air, water, and waste. You will maintain the license to operate for the areas you lead and support in.  This role requires expanded conceptual and practical knowledge in environmental regulations and compliance, and how these items interface with the end-to-end manufacturing process.  You are expected to foster a work environment with integrity, strong customer and regulatory focus, inclusion, diversity, inspire innovation, environmental sustainability, continuous improvement, and deliver exceptional results. 

Responsibilities –

Significant knowledge focused on air, waste and/or water Federal and State regulationsClear understanding of Title V permits, requirements, deviations, and plans to improve performanceAbility to read and understand air permits and air exemptionsManages permits including submittal of permit applications for new and modified equipment, requests for permit changes, and submittal of permit renewal applications.Leads implementation of environmental management systemsLeads environmental performance improvement of assigned plant(s), site, hub, and businessLeads Regulatory testing as required by permit and regulations or as assigned in your areas or othersCoordinates, implements, optimizes EHS&S and compliance programs across assigned area(s)Participates in and facilitates root cause incident investigations and the corrective action process for EHS&S issues and opportunitiesReviews environmental related documents and submittals to ensure consistency and compliancePerforms Management System Work Process roles, as needed (Including understanding and managing ODMS compliance requirements for documents, files, libraries, etc.)Initiates, supports effective Management of Change (MOC) for environmental and compliance mattersGains proficiency in Agency Visit Facilitator requirements and serves as Facilitator as neededManages permits including submittal of permit applications for new and modified equipment, requests for permit changes, and submittal of permit renewal applicationsCoaches, trains, and mentors EHS&S Technicians and Operations PersonnelPerforms site/plant gap assessments around Environmental requirements and EHS&S work processesDevelops, reviews, monitors, creates, delivers training in Environmental Compliance as appropriateEngages with Regional EHS&S Team(s), individuals to share information, gain expertise, ideate and generate improved ways of performing workLearns critical compliance equipment and priority regulatory boundaries and requirements in assigned areas to develop expertise and become valued resources in Operations.  i.e., fired equipment regulated by permitted limits, fully understand operation, monitoring, alarming capability, permit limits, to develop expertise, training, and ensure protection layers are robust and performs as expected, within compliance boundaries.  Help support organizational learning regarding compliance equipment and after events.Schedules and executes routine engagement with leaders and other members of the EHS&S Team as well as the Operations Teams in assigned areasAvailable and engaged in off-hours support for unplanned events and other critical issues as appropriateActive engagement and participation in the local Environmental Specialist network/team meetings to drive consistency, transparency and improvementSupport sustainability including Global Emissions Inventory (GEI) documentation, validation and reporting

Qualifications –

A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent and ONE of the following:A minimum of a bachelor's degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking. A minimum of 5 years of relevant EH&S or compliance experience.A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Preferred Skills –

Familiarity with specific plant regulatory requirements (as applicable) such as HON, MON, MACT, etc.A degree discipline in Science or Engineering
