The Mueller Company is headquartered in Atlanta, GA and manufactures valves for water and gas systems, including iron gate, butterfly, tapping, check, plug, and ball valves, as well as dry-barrel and wet-barrel fire hydrants; pipe repair products, such as clamps and couplings used to repair leaks, as well as municipal castings, including manhole covers and street drain grates; and residential and commercial water meter products and systems. It also offers metering, leak detection, pipe condition assessment, and other products and services for the water infrastructure industry, as well as provides installation, replacement, and maintenance services on new and existing valves, fire hydrants, and service lines.
Position Description
The EHS Environmental Specialist supports the EHS Manager by facilitating continuous improvement in the culture to help Chattanooga Operations reach its vision of Target Zero. The primary function of this position is to provide technical expertise and support in the development and implementation of the environmental and sustainability elements of the EHS Management System (EHSMS) for the Chattanooga, TN facility and support similar processes at other Mueller Co. locations. This includes creating, administering, and continuously improving site-specific processes and plans; preparing applications and reports for air, water, and waste media, and interfacing with appropriate personnel in maintaining the environmental responsibilities in equipment design, repair, maintenance and operation; communicate with Local, State and Federal government agencies.
Position Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and continuously improve all environmental and sustainability elements within the EHS Management System:Administer all programs currently required by federal, state and local regulation (i.e., Title V, RCRA, Storm Water, SPCC and Industrial Landfill.)Write, update, administer and facilitate plans and programs and write applications for permits for solid and hazardous waste (Form R, Annual Emission Estimates, Tier II, etc.)Create and implement site-specific Level III procedures (Energy Programs, Environmental Awareness, Carbon Footprint Management, Waste Management, Environmental Sampling, etc.)Complete daily monitoring and inspections as required within the above programs.Organize and maintain all hard copy and electronic records, permits, audits, and written programs necessary for compliance with regulations and the EHSMS.Develop and coordinate education/training for compliance with the EPA and EHSMS expectations.Coordinate and conduct sampling programs required for environmental compliance (quarterly storm water, annual landfill composite sample, annual ground water monitoring, etc.)Coordinate preventative maintenance and emergency repairs of all pollution control devices and their related systems to include in-house plant maintenance personnel and contracted outside maintenance.Serve as a liaison with local, state and federal compliance regulatory personnel, including officials on any necessary tours and/or inspections.Make periodic comprehensive environmental and safety inspections to include plant and roof identifying, documenting and tracking correction of issues.Maintain certifications necessary for job responsibilities including VEE Method 9, DOT/RCRA, etc., and stay apprised of latest regulations and technologies by attending conferences/seminars.Assist in answering any notices of violations and initiate actions for any necessary abatement.Assist in the collection, input and distribution of various data and reports for environmental and sustainability initiatives (waste generation, recycling, gas, water, sewer output, electrical, etc.)Monitor collection and storage of used oil and coolant, empty drums, metal chips, and cast-iron chips. Ensure proper storage and disposal processes are followed.Assist EHS Manager with the development of Fiscal Year environmental and sustainability objectives, target and processes.Drive completion and continuous improvement of the environmental risk assessment process (aspects/impacts).Support Health and Safety functions, as necessary, with risk assessments, incident analysis, START observations, Level III development and implementation, education and training.Manage projects related to Environmental Health and Safety.Required Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Sustainability or Chemical Engineering or Science.Minimum five (5) years of experience working with Title V permits, hazardous waste, NPDES, State and Federal agencies. Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Conducting Investigations, Hazard Identification and Auditing.Understanding of OSHA Regulations, Federal and State.Current certification in Hazardous Waste Management and Response that fulfills the requirements of 29 CFR1910.120q(6)(iii).Experience in emergency response procedures and landfill management is preferred, but not required.Industrial Hygiene Experience is preferred, but not required.Proven ability in the development of processes from conception through integration into an EHS Management System.ISO 14001 experience is preferred.Five or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment as an environmental specialist.Perks of Joining Our Team:
