Purpose of the position: 

Ensure facility is always in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
Maintain ISO 14001 certification by implementing improvements in facility management systems, internal environmental audits, corrective action plans and continual improvement activities.
Promote Company goals for environmental compliance among plant associates providing technical expertise to comply with governmental regulations on environmental issues. 
Write and/or review Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI) as they pertain to environmental issues. 
  
Principle Duties and Responsibilities: 

Prepare and submit various reports required under the CAA, CWA, RCRA, SARA, and others. 

Perform emission calculations and maintain records to demonstrate compliance with site Operating Permits. 

Document spill and emission events, including estimates of quantities released. 

Coordinate/schedule environmental service vendors with operations personnel.

Interact with Federal State and Local regulatory agencies to resolve issues resulting from agency investigations and reportable incidents. 

Keep up to date with regulatory changes. Establish and maintain systems to ensure they are incorporated into plant operations with SOPs, recommendations and/or equipment changes. Support the plant's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

Review daily monitoring system data to check for process irregularities, trends, or other indications of potential problems with plant operations, and for compliance with operating permits.

Explain the terms and conditions of environmental permits, and requirements of environmental rules and regulations to operations personnel so everyone understands the requirements.  Perform periodic inspections/audits to evaluate compliance with those requirements.

 

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Technical / Science major or Related Technical Discipline

Bachelor’s degree, Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering

 

Experience: 

2-5  years exp in the environmental compliance field in combined areas of Air, Waste and Wastewater in the chemical or related industries. 

Familiar with CAA, CWA, RCRA, DOT, CERCLA and SARA regulations  

Demonstrate skills needed to read, interpret, identify applicability to processes or equipment, and apply the reqs to a facility in procedures, work instructions or recs for modifications or new projects. 

Technical degree is required to enable complex process analysis, i.e., material balances, mass transport, etc. 

Demonstrate organizational skills, ability to prioritize projects, recognize and resolve tech or procedural conflicts.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Skills in the use of comp software a must, especially Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word. 

Environmental experience in a synthetic rubber manufacturing facility preferred. 

Familiarity with the Federal stormwater pollution prevention plan requirements; & USEPA sampling and analysis methods.  

Familiarity with EPA's Title V Operating Permit program and semiannual reporting.  

Basic knowledge of wastewater treatment.  

Experience in visible emissions evaluations using Method 9.  

Experience with continuous Emissions Monitoring Sys (CEMS).  

Knowledge of DOT shipping regulations, the solid waste classification process.

The pay range for this position is 67208 - 124816 /yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on factors such-as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
