The Environmental Specialist position maintains a thorough working knowledge of current and new environmental regulations as applied to construction projects within MPLX Gathering and Processing with a focus on environmental construction compliance.  This position advises MPLX staff in program development and communicates required changes in the Environmental Construction Program based on revisions to or new regulations and improvements based on field observations.  The position assists in the development and implementation of new Corporate-wide and Department directives with the primary responsibility of supporting MPLX project teams in the NW (assisting other regions as necessary).  Activities would typically include environmental compliance evaluations and communication during the construction of new assets, maintenance projects, and integrity projects.
    
RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Must be able to work effectively with a team that covers multiple disciplines to accomplish position and corporate goals.
2.    Assist in developing and updating corporate environmental policies, standards, and procedures based on regulatory changes and/or corporate directives.
3.    Advises MPLX staff on environmental regulations and company initiatives through trainings and other educational methods.
4.    Maintain a working knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and agency guidance documents associated with environmental construction compliance (state and federal) in the states MPLX Gathering and Processing operates.  These include CO, KY, MT, ND, NM, OK, OH, PA, TX, UT, WV, and WY.  The focus of this position will be in the Northwest (ND, WY, and UT) but the position will be required to assist other regions as necessary.
5.    Specifically, maintain a thorough working knowledge of regulations and programs as they relate to environmental construction compliance, such as: archaeological/cultural resource regulations, threatened and endangered species regulations, Clean Water Act Sections 401, 402, and 404, Federal and State Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) implementation, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Best Management Practices implementation.
6.    Provide timely and accurate information to the Environmental Manager on all environmental matters impacting construction compliance and schedules.  
7.    Train external contractors on environmental compliance and corporate expectations prior to commencing projects.
8.    Oversee environmental construction compliance through site visits and reviewing site inspection reports provided by the Engineering/Construction Department.
9.    Act as company representative and point of contact for local, state, and federal environmental agencies.  The position will also be responsible to coordinate, gather, and provide information requested by these agencies and provide any agency notifications required.
10.    Assist the Land and Operations Departments with BLM vegetation monitoring and herbicide treatment reporting and paperwork in UT.  
11.    Complete special environmental projects as assigned.
12.    Must be familiar with construction practices and BMPs 

Travel up to 25 percent.
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED required with 10 years of relevant environmental experience in a process industry (e.g. refining, midstream, petrochemical or other heavy industrial); or Bachelor’s degree in a HES-related field with 5 years relevant environmental experience; or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2 years relevant environmental experience
• Ability to monitor compliance with environmental regulations
• Ability to develop business acumen and technical knowledge

• A valid driver's license is required
