The Environmental Specialist role is pivotal in ensuring the company's compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the environment by comprehensively understanding and implementing environmental procedures and systems to reduce potential risks.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Understanding federal, state, and local environmental regulations is crucial to ensure the company complies with all applicable environmental laws.
• Submitting required reports (AWS, TRI, Tier II, etc.) allows governments to assess and monitor the company's compliance with environmental regulations.
• Conduct regularly scheduled water sampling for Stormwater, Wastewater, and Potable water.
• Conducting routine inspections demonstrating that the company's environmental systems are effective and help protect the environment.
• Developing environmental procedures and systems to help mitigate potential environmental risks.
• Daily coordination and leadership of Facilities Maintenance employees on work schedules to ensure coverage as required.
• Coordination with Outisde Maintenance group on PM compliance.
• Develop new PM’s as required for facility equipment that may not have an existing requirement
• Maintain clean, 6S minded environment around the facilities shop and the Baker Water Plant
• Take requests from administration and other areas of the plant to ensure fixes to the plant facilities are made timely.
• Perform and record all necessary safety training including but not limited to TBT’s, safety stand downs, and individual training as required for work duties.
• Daily checks of all employee facilities around the plant to ensure proper function.
• Inventory and control all spare parts required for facilities related fixes.
• Must understand the process and how it impacts the surrounding environmental media (air, water, and industrial waste)
• Balancing operational needs with environmental protection requires a comprehensive understanding of these impacts
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Comprehensive understanding of federal (EPA), state (TCEQ), and local environmental regulations and standards.
• Proficiency in preparing and submitting required environmental reports such as AWS, TRI, TIER II, and Title V.
• Ability to conduct routine inspections and ensure compliance with environmental procedures and systems.
• Experience in developing and implementing environmental procedures and systems.
• Expertise in overseeing preventive maintenance (PM) of water and water treatment facilities.
• Ability to manage and conduct a comprehensive grounds maintenance program.
• In-depth understanding of various manufacturing processes and their environmental impact on air, water, and industrial waste.
• Effective coordination with multiple business units to ensure projects are completed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with all relevant regulations.
• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with multiple levels of management, state, and federal agencies.
• Experience with Dissolved Air Flotation water processing systems a plus
• Experience with sampling and reporting through both DMR and STEERS
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in an Environmental or Engineering Discipline
EXPERIENCE:
• 5-7 years’ work experience with environmental regulations (air, water, and industrial waste).
WORK CONDITIONS:
• Split between office work and on-site inspections and maintenance within a manufacturing facility.
• Regular interaction with various departments and businesses occupying the site to ensure compliance and efficient project completion.
• Minimal travel may be required for off-site meetings or inspections.
• Standard business hours with potential for extended hours to meet project deadlines or address urgent compliance issues.
• Must adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when conducting on-site inspections and maintenance.
