Brief Description of Duties:
SUNY Morrisville is seeking a dynamic and passionate EOP Counselor.
The EOP Counselor provides dedicated support to a diverse population of EOP students, guiding them in academic planning, program and course selection, and overall college adjustment. EOP is a life-changing opportunity for students, and this role is critical to helping them thrive both academically and personally. The EOP Counselor advises students from varied backgrounds on academic success strategies, financial literacy, and career exploration, offering essential guidance as they transition into college life.
This position also involves designing and leading workshops, coordinating orientation sessions, and collaborating with faculty to address the unique needs of diverse students. Additionally, the counselor may teach skill-building courses tailored for EOP students. The counselor plays an integral role in the implementation of the EOP Summer Academy, maintains detailed records, and contributes to the assessment of EOP services. With a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, the counselor engages with the campus community and state offices, actively participates in campus-wide committees, and advocates for EOP students, supporting their success and the program's mission to provide equitable access and transformative opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Serve as advisor for EOP students
+ Develop and present workshops and orientations
+ Meet with academic advisors and/or faculty
+ Support and advise the development of the pre-college summer institute
+ Serve as chaperon for pre-college summer institute activities
+ Attend staff meetings and EOP student programs
+ Serve on EOP committees and other campus-wide committees
+ Attend and participate in campus-wide meetings
+ Serve as campus liaison for assigned offices
+ Participate in campus orientations, open houses, and other recruiting activities
+ Complete and/or prepare reports
+ Maintain accurate and comprehensive counseling records
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
+ Master's degree
+ Advising experience working with high school or college students from diverse backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and to organize events/workshops
+ Experience with various assessment and program evaluation strategies
+ Teaching experience is also strongly encouraged
