The Opportunity: 

As an Equipment Operator, you will be responsible to the Saltwell Chip Mill Manager and/or Shift Leader for performing specified duties as assigned. You will be responsible for complying with methods, procedures, safety rules and regulations where such have been established for the performance of the employee’s duties.

How you will impact Smurfit WestRock:

Work as a member of the chip yard crew, which is responsible for all operations, maintenance, adjusting, lubrication, housekeeping, and grounds maintenance involved in the handling, storage, and processing of wood to produce chipsPerform any crew duties relating to functions for which the crew is responsible  Provide guidance and direction to other crew members when necessary Perform preventative maintenance and minor repair of equipment and tools as neededOperate various pieces of heavy equipment, including but not limited to log crane, chipper, knuckle boom, and debarkerInstall/Uninstall water pipes around yard to keep wood piles wetOperate small equipment, including but not limited to clean-up tractors, trucks, bobcat, front loader, boom truck, metal detector, push mower and other small equipment to maintain chip yardClean grounds and buildings to maintain an organized work environment. Includes sweeping, mopping, wiping counters, and mowing grassy areasMust be able to exert 10-100 lbs. of force, climb stairs more than 20 feet

What you need to succeed:

1 to 2 years of training provided on-the-job or may be obtained through satisfactory pre-employment experienceHigh school diploma or G.E.D. with equivalent experienceAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out verbal/written instructionsApply safety rules and guidelines as they pertain to company standardsPerform basic calculationsStrong written and verbal communication skills
