The Public Works department is responsible for maintaining and improving city infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems. What you’ll be doing: + Operating various equipment and vehicles for maintenance, repair, and construction projects of stormwater drainage systems and city roadways. + Driving dump trucks to haul materials to and from work sites. + Operating specialized machinery such as skid steers and backhoes. + Performing routine maintenance on equipment in the field and inspecting equipment for safe operation. + Performs a variety of manual or semi-skilled labor in conjunction with maintenance and construction projects such as lifting, digging, moving. Utilizing tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, , tamps, power equipment and other small tools and equipment. + Communicating with supervisors, coworkers, and the public to coordinate work activities and ensure safety. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered: + High school diploma or GED required, + Minimum of one year of experience in heavy equipment operation. + Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements, or the ability to obtain one within 180 days of hire. + Flagger and Work Zone Safety certification within 90 days of hire. + Ability to operate complex equipment and machinery with precision and safety. + Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team. + Commitment to safety and adherence to established procedures.
