The Equipment Operator II is responsible for driving and operating large trucks used to deliver and haul away construction supplies, materials, and heavy equipment to job sites; transport heavy equipment, supplies, and materials to job sites and are responsible for servicing and performing minor maintenance on equipment; transporting personnel to work sites; assist with loading/unloading materials, job site tasks, and maintaining clean equipment and work areas. Essential Functions Essential functions include, but are not limited to: + Transporting personnel to work sites. + Services and performs minor maintenance on equipment. + Assists with loading/unloading materials, job site tasks, and maintaining clean equipment and work areas. + Lifts and carries up to 50 lbs., climbs, stands, pulls, bends, stoops throughout portions of the work day; may stand for more than four hours. + Drives and operates large trucks used to deliver and haul away construction materials and heavy equipment. Education/Experience Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Two years operating heavy equipment. Underground utility system experience preferred. Additional Information & Requirements Valid driver's license, CDL required. May require CDL with Tanker Endorsement within six months of hire, depending upon assignment. The desired candidate will possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License. Pre-employment testing on the operation of equipment may be required. Work Location: Combined Operations, 1316 Ballentine Blvd. Work Hours: Monday through Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus. This position is designated as an 'Essential' position and you may be required to work extended, rotating, on call, nights, weekends, and/or holidays in response to emergencies or severe weather. + Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking. + Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization. + Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union. + Retirement If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. + The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education.
