Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Regional Safety Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Equipment Safety Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to balance company-wide operational hoshin priorities with the obligation to team member safety and compliance through the translation of complex safety regulatory interpretations into actionable instructions and development of technically accurate, standardized safety policies, standards, and programs.

Reporting to the Safety Manager, the person in this role will support the Toyota Safety department's objective to prioritize equipment safety through standardization, achieve best safety performance, and an incident free workplace.

What you’ll be doing

Provide support as a multi-function SME in safety related functions such as risk assessment, machine & equipment guarding, control of hazardous energy, equipment safety management system, circuitry analysis, etc.

Author, maintain, and update specific equipment safety related standards aligned with Equipment Safety Assurance Program (ESAP)

Develop and manage implementation plans, presentations, and technical reports for executive management as well as internal and external customers

Lead, support and participate in key safety initiatives within the safety business unit

What you bring

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Safety Engineering and/or 5+ years of experience in one of the following: Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or equivalent degree

Experience in machine safety, reliability, and design

Comprehensive understanding of safety systems, regulatory policy interpretation, compliance, reliability, and equipment engineering

Knowledge and proficiency in creating and implementing technical safety standards

Knowledge and proficiency in functional safety of equipment/machinery following current standards and guidelines ISO 13849, IEC 62061, ANSI B.11, etc.

Knowledge and proficiency in equipment and process hazard identification, risk assessment, controlling hazards, and mitigation risk

Experience managing projects requiring critical thinking (kaizen), problem solving, data analysis & verification, and continuous improvement

Detail oriented and self-motivated with strong decision-making, organizational, and analytical skills

Manage customer expectations and work to find mutually agreeable solutions

Capable of developing and delivering presentations, generating effective reports, conducting applicable research

Bonus if you have

Master’s degree or higher

Functional Safety Engineer Certification

TUV Technician Certification

Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

Experience working in manufacturing, Safety, and/or engineering

Development of others with varying experience level, skills, and/or projects

OSHA 10 hour

Knowledge and proficiency in circuit verification & validation

Knowledge and proficiency in new technologies
