Responsibilities You will schedule and conduct load tests, operational tests, various types of proof tests, and related actions necessary to recommend certification or acceptance of Weight Handling Equipment (WHE). You will study engineering blueprints and specific OEM equipment data to recommend specification changes to new/modified parts and/or subassemblies to avoid anticipated procurement, operational, maintenance, repair, and/or inspection difficulties. You will evaluate and troubleshoot issues with all WHE found during maintenance and inspection or reported by the command and customers by physically inspecting equipment to identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Understanding the characteristics, properties, uses, and interrelationships of components, assemblies and/or subassemblies to perform a wide range of weight handling equipment maintenance; 2) Understanding the parts, tools, and training devices required to support assigned complex components, assemblies, and/or subassemblies, operational, post repair, and certification tests; 3) Performing equipment evaluations and maintenance including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and structural as necessary; 4) Understanding how to read, interpret, and determine the technical validity of blueprints, work orders, and technical manuals; and 5) Communicating orally and in writing with a variety of internal personnel, contractors, customers, supervisors, and manufacturers. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education Applicants may qualify with the following education in lieu of the specialized experience qualification: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree OR I have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
