ER/ICU Technician Description
Our Emergency Room Technicians are responsible for the care and treatment of unstable/critically ill patients, triaging emergency patients, and monitoring hospitalized pets. They operate under the supervision of various specialists, the staff manager, emergency doctor, and department shift leads. This is an overview of the position and is not limited to the listed duties below.

Our ER/ICU Techs are essential for caring for unstable and critically ill pets. You’ll be involved in everything from triaging emergency patients to monitoring hospitalized animals, alongside our team of specialists, shift leads, and the emergency doctor.
Key Responsibilities Include:Must be RVT/CVT/LVT or PVT in the state of Colorado or in process of transferring credentialingTriage phone calls, and/or walk-ins, as necessary. Reviewing medical records as necessary to assist in those triagesPerform appropriate patient restraint for examinations and proceduresUnderstand most major illnesses and the appropriate treatmentAcquire, prepare, and ship laboratory specimens along with running automated CBCs, preparation of blood films to perform manual differentials and platelet counts, running various chemistries, Coag tests, and collect, evaluate, and report urinalysis results.General nursing care such as: accurately obtaining and assessing patient vitals (temperatures, pulses/heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, pain score, etc.), auscultation of the lungs, prepare and administer nutritionPerform general venipuncture, peripheral/central/arterial catheter placement and maintenancePerform emergency procedures including but not limited to resuscitation with colloids/crystalloid fluids, establish and maintenance of open airway intubation, oxygen administration via ET tube/nasal/flow-by/O2 cage, administration of pharmacological agents under veterinary supervisionInduction, surgical skin preparation, monitor and recovery of surgical patients for minor or major surgical proceduresAdmitting and discharging patients, client communication and education, answering phone calls and scheduling appointmentsCleaning, stocking, general organization, and maintenance of ICU/Isolation equipment and supplies Strong knowledge of medical mathHolidays are required 2/year - One minor (summer holiday), One major (winter holiday)One on-call shift every 4 weeks is required
