Position Summary:
Assist in the care of patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Perform initial triage screening assessments, stabilizes and/or prepare patient for transport, document patient care activities, and provide ongoing patient monitoring. Under medical direction administer IV and oral medications. Assist with procedures in emergency department and emergency department resuscitation unit. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* MEDICATION - Under medical direction administer oral and IV medications via six rights, document and communicate clinical findings
* ALS - Assist in providing all components of advance life support
* TESTS - Perform 12-lead EKG's and chemical blood glucose tests
* THERAPY - Perform peripheral venous puncture, blood draws, and IV fluid therapy
* CARDIAC - Provide cardiac monitoring; assist with cardioversion or defibrillation
* EMERGENCY CARE - Provide oxygen therapy, suctioning, apply cardiac monitor, and initial triage assessments under the direct supervision of a registered nurse
* EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Monitor and stock emergency equipment and supply areas maintaining appropriate PAR levels
* SPECIMEN - Collect, label and transport specimens
* WOUND CARE - Complete wound care process according to medical protocol under the direct supervision of RN or physician
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Nonessential:
Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo 3 years directly related experience

Credentials:
Essential:
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
* Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License
* PALS
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers
Nonessential:
* Nationally Registered Paramedic License

Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
