Position Summary:  Under close/general supervision of licensed personnel, the Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) will perform a variety of functions (see essential functions below) in support of the Physician and Registered Nurse and provide care of patients requiring urgent or emergency care and assist with the overall efficient operation of the ED.
Performs administrative/clerical duties in support of the Emergency Department  

Strives daily to give all customers excellent patient care and promotes Valley View Medical Centers’ Standards of Behavior.Promotes culture of safety for patients through proper identification, reporting, and documentation.Maintains competency and knowledge through current standards of practice, trends and developments in related scope of job role or practice.Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.Reports any reported or suspected abuse/domestic violence to the RN and/or Physician.Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, competency, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of Valley View Medical Center and other local, state, and federal guidelines.Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.The ER Technician/Coordinator has the responsibility of reporting any unusual occurrences to the Registered Nurse.Cleans and stocks carts and patient rooms.Assists the Registered Nurse with transport of patients to other departments.Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.Works with the House Supervisor in the coordination of bed assignments for patients to be admitted and reports information to the RN.Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking suppliesAssist with obtaining and documentation of vital signs and reports results to the RN and/or physician.Maintains accurate documentation within the patient's electronic health record compliant with HIPAA/Confidentiality regulations at all times.Maintains compliance with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.Adheres to infection control policies and protocols for themselves and the patients.Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner. Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment.ED technician staff are allowed to manage storage and distribution of plain IV solutions.Respects cultural and religious practices of the patients.Competency Based Essential FunctionsThe ER Technician may perform duties that are within their scope based on the regulations of the State Licensing Board.ED Technician staff must pass an annual competency on handling plain IV solutions.The following are tasks (but not limited to) frequently performed by the ER technician but he/she must have and show competency prior to performance:Obtaining 12-lead EKGs.Discontinuation of peripheral IVsObtaining laboratory specimens.Maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysisAssistance with wound care/dressings, casting, splinting and educating patients on use of crutches.Monitoring of patients in restraints 1:1 monitoring of patients - Sitters competencyPerformance of Point of Care Testing. -Every effort has been made to make this job description as complete as possible. Minimum EducationX High school diploma or equivalent x PreferredX CNA Certification or EMT or Paramedic or proof of completion of first year of an accredited nursing program upon hire.CNA, EMT or Paramedic licenses as listed below from accredited programs.Minimum Work ExperienceOne (1) year experience in Emergency Services is preferred.Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Must possess the ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time and lift heavy objects; assist patients to and from bed/wheelchair/gurney; and to perform the essential duties of the position.Must be able to work any scheduled shifts. Must be willing to periodic overtime.Certifications:X Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association X RequiredMust obtain within 30 days if BLS is not with the American Heart AssociationCompetency:ED Technician staff must pass an annual competency on handling plain IV solutions.Required Licenses[Arizona, United States] Nursing Assistant
