STEPSto End Family Violence -Rising Ground’santi-intimate partner violence program - offers a variety of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive programming focused on the prevention of intimate partner violence; advocacy and healing for survivors and children impacted by abusive partner behavior; and training intended to increase awareness of the epidemic of gender-based violence.
TheEarly RAPP Community Educatorworks within 8 New York City Middle Schools. The Community Educator’s role in the schools includescreating and providing education and trainings around issues of relationship abuse, gender-based violence, healthy relationships, and related social issues to students, staff, parents, and the community. This position also includes an element of program development. The program runs year round
Responsibilities
•Facilitatestudent workshops and groups. •Develop and delivertrainings for staff, parents and community. •Createcurriculum for new workshops, trainings, and groups. •Coordinatewith school staff to provide resources, schedule trainings, and build rapport. •Participateactively in weekly team meetings. •Completerelated paperwork and reports in a timely manner. •Providecommunity referrals for students seeking additional services. •Outreachnew schools and organizations as needed to build both one-time and ongoing partnerships.
• Other duties as needed.
Field-based;School are primarly Brooklyn-based.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, Master’s degrees welcome. • Abiding commitment to supporting and nurturing the holistic well-being of adolescents. • Familiarity with the nuances of intimate partner violence. • Meaningful commitment to practicing from a healing-centered, anti- oppressive stance. • Highly organized, self-motivated worker who can easily manage competing demands. • Demonstrated experience with workshop development and facilitation. • Passion for incorporating reflective practice around issues of race, oppression, and diversity into facilitation and training • Creative problem-solver who anticipates challenges and seizes opportunities for collaboration. • Able to implement vision, think strategically, exercise good judgment, and lead change. • High level of self-awareness and ability to give and receive feedback well. • Impeccable attention to detail, systems, and processes. • Ability to work with flexibility, independence, accountability, passion, and humor.
Annual Salary $53,000
