The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) has placed Copperview Elementary in Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) status based upon low student performance. In an effort to better support student learning/engagement, teacher instruction, and to move Copperview Elementary out of CSI status, Canyons School District’s Board of Education is funding the equivalent of eight (8) mandatory days of professional learning for Copperview Elementary teachers, see below:
+ 5 professional learning days at the beginning of the school year
+ First Year Teachers or Teachers New to the District:
+ July 29-31, August 1-2, 2024: Teacher Preparation Days
+ August 5-9 2024: PEAKS Training (District Training for New Teachers)
+ August 12-16: Professional Learning for all teachers
+ All Other Teachers:
+ July 29-31, August 1-2, 2024 OR the week of August 5-9 2024 for preparation days
+ August 12-16: Professional Learning for all teachers
+ 1 full day of professional learning at the end of the school year
+ June 2, 2025
+ 4 hours of professional learning for all teachers on the following dates (totals 2 days):
+ Saturday, September 14, 2024
+ Saturday, November 23, 2024

The candidate agrees and commits to attending the eight (8) professional learning days indicated above and will be compensated according to their hourly rate of pay indicated in SKYWARD.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop the skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners and productive citizens. Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate pupils to develop attitudes and knowledge that will help them reach their potential and be prepared for higher levels of education. Teachers differentiate curriculum and use effective research-based methods of instruction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE’s Core Curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities.
+ Instruct pupils in citizenship.
+ Meet regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance requirements.
+ Utilize CSD instructional framework to provide engaging instruction based on core standards.
+ Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
+ Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
+ Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
+ Evaluates student’s academic and social growth, maintains appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
+ Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other means, to discuss the student’s progress.
+ Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, academic, social and psychological challenges.
+ Create an effective environment for learning through organization, functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
+ Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
+ Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.
+ Maintain professional expertise through in-service education activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
+ Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
+ Incumbent must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal backgrounds check.

+ Requires a valid Associate or Professional Educator License for the State of Utah within the relevant “License Area of Concentration” and, if applicable, “Endorsement”

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS---Not limited to the following:
+ While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The teacher is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
