ESTIMATING ASSISTANT

General Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for developing accurate and timely proposals and estimates for both private and public section projects to ensure Granite is a responsive bidder.

Essential Job Accountabilities

Prebid Assist Estimator: Assist w/ tracking upcoming work and manage bid schedule, outlook, and CAM360, scan agency websites and publications for potential opportunities, maintain vendor and subcontractor database, pre-bid qualifications.

Prebid Document Control - Prepare bid documents, send/upload pre-bid information for risk and bonds, send/upload private documents for risk approval and/or legal stipulations, manage documents from corporate, and prepare final bid documents for submittal.

Manager DBE/Minority Documentation - Analyze requirements, prepare good faith efforts, setup all necessary publications, manage final DBE/Good Faith Effort document organization and submittal.

Bid Day - Assist with bid documentation form completion, bid runner, close bids, handle electronic bid submissions.

Post Bid Document/Initial Contract Setup - Assist in preparing required documents for owner/agency, send/upload contracts to corporate, prepare and setup in CAM360 and e1, prepare letter of intent and hand off to project admin.

Assist Chief Estimator and Estimating/Preconstruction Team with various tasks

Organize and coordinate resume and job card with Proposal Coordinator

Network with CA Estimating Assistants


Education

Associates or bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent work experience. 

Work Experience

2-5 years in Construction industry with basic understanding of the bidding process and public agency requirements


Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Can be based out of the Santa Barbara or Santa Maria offices. Must be willing to travel to either office up to 3 times per week.

Must have some experience, knowledge, and understanding of the estimating process.

Notary Public Preferred

Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities

Excellent organizational skills

JD Edwards experience a plus

High attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines

Ability to operate with all levels of staff

Excellent interpersonal, phone and grammar skills

Willingness to take on additional tasks

Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. At times will be working around large construction equipment, must be safety conscience.

Base Salary Range: 

$64,713.00 - $97,070.00

Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.  ​
