The Position Proposition:
Job Summary
The Estimating Manager is responsible for leading and managing the estimating function within the division. This role will oversee all aspects of the estimating process, including developing and implementing best practices, streamlining workflows, and mentoring junior estimators. The Estimating Manager will play a crucial role in driving profitable growth by ensuring accurate and competitive bids.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and Manage Estimating Team: Supervise and mentor a team of estimators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. Develop and implement training programs to enhance estimating skills and knowledge within the team. Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Streamline Estimating Processes: Analyze and identify areas for improvement in the estimating process. Develop and implement new processes and tools to increase efficiency and accuracy. Implement and maintain estimating software and databases. Oversee the development and maintenance of estimating standards and procedures. Prepare and Review Estimates: Prepare Estimates as needed. Review and approve all estimates prior to submission. Conduct thorough quality control checks on all estimates. Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with estimates. Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards. Develop and Maintain Client Relationships: Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to identify and pursue new business opportunities. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and subcontractors. Attend industry events and conferences to network and stay abreast of market trends. Business Development: Assist in the development of proposals and presentations. Conduct market research and analysis to support business development efforts. Identify and pursue new markets and opportunities for growth. Training and Succession Planning: Identify and develop high-potential estimators for future leadership roles. Create and implement a succession plan for the Estimating Manager position. Other Duties as Assigned: Participate in company meetings and events. Assist with other projects as needed.Educational & Minimum Requirements: Post Secondary Education in Construction Manager or related field preferred. Minimum of 7-10 tangible experience in the Natural Gas Distribution Space. Estimating experience required. Experience with PG&E, SoCal Gas/SDGE on Gas Utility Pipeline Construction. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, or equivalent is highly desired. Working knowledge of estimation software programs. (Heavy Bid, P6,) Experience with assisting the client preconstruction support consulting, negotiating project estimates and overseeing project execution. Demonstrated skills in oral communications; willingness to make presentations to large, diverse groups. Ability to work in a fast paced, ambiguous environment. Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships while effectively navigating organizational barriers. Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills. Domain knowledge of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus and Unit contract pricing mechanisms. Self-motivated, self-learner, capable of working autonomously with ability to work well under pressure, respond appropriately to changing priorities and unexpected situations. Ability to identify opportunities and resolve issues in a timely manner. Ability to bid multiple projects simultaneously. Understand the business implications of decisions and display an orientation to profitability. Strong analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking and mediation skills. Ability to maintain and protect confidential information. Ability to accommodate travel schedule.
